ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

Legacy Charter School is a highperforming public charter school holistically educating 468 scholars in Kindergarten through 8th grade in Chicagos North Lawndale neighborhood. Our mission is to create an outstanding center for teaching and learning for children and their families that will recognize and nurture the full potential of every child provide a foundation for a college education and educate ourscholars to be creative and critical thinkers and responsible citizens in school at home and in the broader community.

POSITION SUMMARY

Classroom teachers provide our scholars with rigorous academic experiences that prepare them for success with standardsbased grade level and above content through consistent joyful rigorous socialemotional and cognitive learning experiences. Teachers create wellplanned lessons that are culturally relevant datainformed and rooted in engaging pedagogy. Our educators believe in our mission work with their teams and colleagues build relationships with scholars and their families and focus deeply on work that leads to academic growth and success as well as creating a learning environment where all scholars will thrive.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The ideal candidate:

• Facilitate the learning needs of special education scholars in the classroom by working to implement their inclusion in classroom activities to the maximum extent possible.
• To assist scholars academic and behavior needs.
• Ability to work and communicate with scholars in an appropriate professional manner required.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others.
• Assist the classroom teacher and scholars in daily activities.
• Demonstrate knowledge of scholars needs including but not limited to: educational medical physical sensory speech/language social/emotional recreational vocational etc. as established by the teacher.
• Under the direction of the teacher(s) maintain scholars behavior by utilizing behavior management strategies.
• Ability to adhere to schedule while remaining flexible when scholars needs require schedule changes as directed by the special education teacher and/or administration.
• Work to meet the IEP requirements for the scholar(s) by proactively communicating suggestions and ideas to better support the scholar(s).
• Remain coachable and open to feedback on most efficient ways to support the scholar(s).
• Maintain required documentation as directed by the special education teacher and scholars IEP(s).
• Contribute to the professional community of the school by participating in Professional Development including weekly Professional Development sessions and all other meetings as expected.
• Attend school wide meetings and participate as a staff member on committees as expected.
• Engage in all professional development and reading activities in order to deepen knowledge on how to support scholars.
• Operate all equipment related to support of teacher and/or student needs: copy machine computers assistive technology related OT and PT devices other items as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Illinois Professional Educator License or Illinois Substitute Teacher License or ELS with Paraprofessional Endorsement. To attain the ELS License for Paraprofessionals you must have one of the following:

• Associates Degree
• completed a paraprofessional training program approved by ISBE (e.g. active paraprofessionals license) or
• passed the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment with 460 as a minimum score or
• passed the applicable ACT WorkKeys assessments. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.

This position is a fulltime position with benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience.
