Job Description

Responsibilities:

Pastoral Ministry at Methodist Family Health involves all staff the children we serve in the hospitals and our psychiatric residential treatment programs and their families. Many of the staff consider their jobs a calling and are doing ministry in a variety of contexts. The Director of Pastoral Care should seek to support and multiply the service of the rest of the staff as we all work together as a community to bring healing and help to children youth and families. The central purpose of this ministry is to provide pastoral care for the whole Methodist Family Health Continuum of care and the communities it serves.

Encourage age appropriate groups for adults teenagers children and preschoolers to encourage laughter sharing enjoying and applying Scripture from both Old and New Testaments worship and prayer.

Use creative means to communicate the unconditional love of God in Christ in an age appropriate manner.

Foster programs that express Gods love and the fellowship of others to bring healing and wholeness into all of our staff children and families lives.

Make resource materials available such as Bibles and devotional materials for other staff to use in their work with children and youth.

Seek community help to plan events and support participation in experiences to enhance a sense of unity to Methodist Family Health and the outside community through worship and recreation.

Develop system to gather prayer requests from staff.

Participate regularly in various meetings and events held in different branches of the Methodist Family Health Continuum of Care to raise awareness of needs and help to coordinate planning.

Assist with referrals to connect staff and clients with churches which suit their particular needs whether in our area or in an area to which they move when they leave here.

Be available for confidential individual prayer pastoral counseling and referrals for staff youth children and family members. It is understood that there might be crisis calls from time to time due to death or medical emergency within the continuum.

Develop and maintain our connection with the United Methodist Church Arkansas Conference and churches and other denominations individual donors community groups agencies that support children and volunteers. This includes speaking at churches on an invitational basis.

Encourage relationships with all of these abovementioned individuals and groups as we are aware that our ministry here at Methodist Family Health depends not just on one individual or even our entire wonderful staff but a much wider community of concerned supporters with whom God has blessed us.

Ensure compliance of licensing agency regulations including JCAHO Medicaid Department of Health and Department of Education as well as federal regulatory standards for corporate compliance and HIPPA.

Develop and maintain a positive relationship and mutual respect with the MFH Program Directors. Keep them informed of pertinent information and seek approval for policy issues changes updates etc. as needed.

Coordinate with the CEO and DRT in establishing department goals.

Maintain a flexible and adaptable work schedule which may include irregular hours varying shifts and occasional weekend or evening work depending on the needs of the programs.

Supervise and mentor any possible additional pastoral care staff and/or interns.

Periodically travel to different areas of the state to support remote programs.

Provide support role for camps conducted by Methodist Family Health.

Work

Develop/Maintain an annual budget and work closely with CEO and DRT on financial issues.

Serve as a consultant to any minister of the Arkansas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church as that minister may seek help in solving a vexing childcare problem in his or her local parish.

May speak at churches on behalf of Methodist Family Health.

To continue to grow in faith and practice by pursuing on going classes or seminars in Theology Counseling Christian education and spirituality.

Qualifications:

The Director of Pastoral Care will have a Masters degree in Divinity or who is qualified by education and experience in Pastoral Care Christian education or Christian counseling.

Have at least 3 years experience in working with children & adolescents

The Director of Pastoral Care must be able to interface with the United Methodist Church.

Will possess an enthusiasm for the care of children and families; will have a highenergy level recognizing that the job is a 24 hourresponsibility often requiring activity beyond office hours. A sense of humor is not only helpful but also essential. At the same time he/she will strive to find some balance of time for self and family.

Flu shot is mandatory and required for all positions (subject only to qualified exemptions).
