What you will be doing:
The Insurance Financial Examiner (IFE) 1/2 is responsible for financial and statutory surveillance of domestic insurance companies through completion of timely examinations analysis of financial statements filed with the division and analyzes regulatory filings for approval. Under close supervision the IFE 1 level participates in financial examinations of insurers as part of an examination team. The individual will assist an IFE 2 and/or contractors in performing analyses of insurance company financial filings with the division and progressively work more independently in the financial surveillance of domestic insurance companies. The IFE 1 will receive formal and onthejob training in financial analysis and financial examination projects in order to progress to the IFE 2 level.

Who we are looking for:

  • Accounting Operations: Knowledge of general ledger accounting and the control/subsidiary account relationships and reconciliation techniques including accounts receivable accounts payable and disbursing officers accountability.
  • Analysis and Assessment: Uses information technology in accessing collecting analyzing maintaining and disseminating data and information.
  • Auditing: Knowledge of generally accepted auditing standards and procedures for conducting financial and compliance economy and efficiency and program audits.
  • Compliance: Knowledge of procedures for assessing evaluating and monitoring programs or projects for compliance with State and federal laws regulations and guidance.
  • Insurance:Knowledge of various types of insurance insurance regulations claims processing examination adjudication or adjustment.
Special Notice:
Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining designation as an Accredited Financial Examiner (AFE) in insurance within two years of the appointment and designation as a Certified Financial Examiner (CFE) from the Society of Financial Examiners within another two years of the appointment. If the AFE designation is held at the time of appointment continued employment is contingent upon obtaining designation as a CFE in insurance within two years of the appointment.



Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications for theInsurance Financial Examiner 1:
A Bachelors degree or the equivalent from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting business administration or a closely related field;
AND
Two years of professional experience performing financial exams financial audits or financial analyses.

Minimum qualifications for theInsurance Financial Examiner 2:
A Bachelors degree or the equivalent from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting business administration or a closely related field;
AND
One year of professional experience performing financial exams financial audits or financial analyses specific to insurance or any regulated industry;
OR
One year of professional experience as the examinerincharge of financial exams or financial audits for any industry.

COVER LETTER INSTRUCTIONS
Provide a single page cover letter detailing any professional experience relevant to working with the insurance industry or in another similarly highly regulated industry. Highlight your experience related to topics such as: conducting compliance audits performing financial analysis researching complex topics and obtaining professional designations.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the Insurance Licensing Examiner 1 level or Insurance Licensing Examiner 2 level depending on the applicants training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at.

If postsecondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications you must fill in the Education section of the application. If you have not obtained a degree please indicate the number of units completed. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials if used to meet the minimum qualifications for a position. Transcripts can be attached at the time of application or provided at the time of interview.

WORK EXPERIENCE
If using work experience not already documented in your application also provide the employer name your job title dates of employment and whether fullor parttime.
