Seasonal Maintenance Worker PW Road Operations
Marion County Public Works is seeking enthusiastic safetyminded and teamoriented individuals to join our Road & Bridge Operations Division this summer.
As a Seasonal Maintenance Worker you will join our collaborative team and participate in a variety of tasks necessary for the operation and maintenance of roadway features within the Marion County community including pavement/drainage bridges/guardrail signs/pavement markings roadside vegetation litter control and high wind/storm response efforts.
These positions require being 18 years of age or older possession of a high school diploma (or equivalent) and a demonstrated safe driving record of two years or more.

This position is primarily assigned to Road and Bridge Maintenance Crews (including signs pavement markings and vegetation) and may be temporarily reassigned to other department workgroups with alternative reporttowork locations and work schedules.
Work may include digging ditches; shoveling; installing and maintaining culverts; cutting and chipping brush; litter pickup / nuisance control removal; clean and maintain shops grounds vehicles and equipment.
Controls or directs traffic around hazards or crews; sets up moves and maintains signs cones and barricades portable devices for work or hazard zones; turn high water signs; operates pilot and tail vehicles.
Shovel and rake hot mix asphalt or cold mix; apply tack oil; prepare and apply sealant.
Stands for long periods of time; walks long distances; works in inclement weather conditions; performs heavy manual labor; loading/ unloading all types of heavy materials; works with Corrections workers.
Works in inclement weather conditions; aids in storms response and recovery including ice snow control flooding high water and wind damage.
Potential equipment operated may include light truck; < 26K GVWno air brakes (w/wo variable message board plow sander deicer) 2nd operator for inductor/hot box/sweeper trucks plate compactors small patch roller ATVs asphalt tacker sealer air compressor concrete saw skid steer (yard work) fork lift truck small tractor w/bucket variable message board (VBM) & light plant trailers wood chipper Park/Lawn mower hand/hose herbicide sprayer (w/direct ODA cert supervisor) hot melt plastic truck walk behind paint striper work boat; 16 (OR boater cert. concrete mixer vacuum trailer other small power equipment (hand blowers chain saw limb saw misc. hand tools) portable radio.
Adequately communicate and access information via the computer (i.e. effectively uses and responds to emails)
May take part in chemical hazard cleanups according to training given.
Participate in basic incident command training; may participate in drills to maintain proficiency in supporting ECC activities including carrying out field work in connection with ECC operations; may be assigned clerical/ support incident liaison or other duties at any location within or near the county; Emergency Management duties may require working long hours outside normal business hours weekend/holiday work and may occur with little or no advance notice; may assist in emergency / field inspections of infrastructure.
Performs other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS
Marion County is a qualifying public employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program fulltime employees working at the County may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan. Questions about your loan eligibility should be directed to your loan servicer or the US Department of Education.

Marion County does not offer VISA sponsorship. Within three days of hireyou will be required to complete the US Department of Homeland Securitys I9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States.
