Associate Teacher Horace Mann Laboratory School

EMPLOYMENT TERMS:Fulltime 9month position

PRIMARY DUTY: The successful candidate will teach in a coteaching capacity with a lead masterlevel teacher at an innovative projectbased childcentered kindergarten through sixth grade laboratory school. The Associate Teacher will provide elementary students with exemplary instruction within a laboratory school setting with a focus on science technology engineering and mathematics within a social justice framework. The Associate Teacher will work collaboratively with the classroom teachers to provide a unique experience where students share a classroom with specific grade level instruction and blended learning of integrated subjects. The Associate Teacher is responsible for promoting high expectations for students working collaboratively with coteachers communicating effectively with parents assisting with curriculum development infusing art and music into content areas and working collaboratively with the School of Education faculty and staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Provide researchbased instruction to a diverse student population in a laboratory school setting
2. Coteach with a masterlevel teacher in a blended multiage learning environment
3. Participate in highly collaborative professional learning activities with colleagues
4. Build relationships with families and community members to promote regular parent involvement
5. Collaborate and coteach with instructional aides student employees and university students
6. Exhibit strong skills in educational technology research and collaboration
7. Create curriculum and lesson plans in all curricula areas
8. Demonstrate a growth mindset initiative and actively collaborate in research of innovative practices
9. Model a nurturing disposition with an excellent ability to communicate effectively with young children
10. Integrate technology across the curriculum
11. Serve as the fourth through sixth grade academic extension cosponsor (i.e. math contest spelling bee geography bee)
12. Effectively communicate with parents college students University faculty and staff
13. Assist with university and program accreditation (AAQEP HLC CAEP DESE and/or other)
14. Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelors degree in Education Early Childhood Education or other closely related associated program from a regionallyaccredited University/College
Certification/License: Valid Missouri State Teaching Certificate or evidence of ability to receive certificate in a timely manner

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL:Willing to be able to acquire and maintain a valid passport to participate in international study away trips for faculty and students

WORKING CONDITIONS:Collaborative teambased academic environment in a universitybased laboratory school

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:Supervises student employees and K6 grade students; Supervises teacher candidates in the absence of the masterlevel teacher

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to complete essential classroom/administrative functions; ability to lift up to 20 pounds
