Job Description
POSITION:Substitute Teacher
DEPARTMENT:Early Childhood Services
REPORTS TO:Site Coordinator
DATE:March 2023
Job Summary:
This position serves as a Teachers Aide/Substitute for a Grand Street Settlement Early Childhood classroom. Under the supervision of the Site Director the Teachers Aide/Substitute is responsible for assisting with the supervision of all children implementing classroom activities works cooperatively with and supporting other classroom staff and volunteers and assists with the general maintenance of the classroom to insure the health and safety of the children of the program.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE
The Teachers Aide/Substitute responsibilities chiefly fall within the following core functions although s/he may perform other tasks as needed:
- Child Growth & Development:Supervising all childrens indoor and outdoor activities while incorporating positive guidance techniques Planning: Conducting activities that encourage social emotional physical and cognitive development in a manner that meets all applicable local state and federal standards
- Program Implementation: Assisting Teacher in completion of attendance health checks home correspondence home visit forms accident/incident reports referrals safety inspections etc.
- Family Partnerships:Creating and maintain a positive working relationship with parents providing positive feedback on childs ongoing developmental successes and challenges.
Requirements:
- 18 years
- High School diploma or GED Preferred some college credits
- Preferred : Valid Teaching Assistant Level 1 certification or Higher NYS Teacher Assistant Certification
- At least one year experience working with children ages 03 and families
- Ability to read and write English
- Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules and policy and procedures manuals
- Successful completion of background checks is required upon hire
- DOE fingerprinting and Pass Comprehensive background check
- Mandated Reporter training and any other trainings required
