Finance and Administration is a vibrant and varied portfolio serving all aspects of campus life. Our employees perform a wide range of functions including offering essential financial tools and support to the universitys many departments providing key resources to employees and keeping campus safe clean accessible and beautiful.
Established in 2012 the Transportation Services Department is an auxiliary unit within Finance and Administration whose goal is to provide customeroriented sustainable transportation and parking programs and services to students employees and visitors to the University of Oregon. Transportation Services covers its expenses and operations through revenue generation largely through permit sales meter revenue events and citations. The units annual budget is approximately $2 million. Transportation Services maintains more than 3800 parking spaces on or adjacent to campus in more than 60 lots and two multilevel parking garages.
Transportation Services facilitates university travel by managing a motor pool that provides reliable wellmaintained vehicles for universityrelated travel. Motor pool services support convenient costeffective transportation to meet diverse needs and is managed with a focus on safety efficiency environmental sustainability and fiscal responsibility.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Transportation Services the Motor Pool Manager oversees the operations personnel maintenance finance and administration of the universitys motor pool ensuring a safe reliable and wellmaintained fleet to meet the universitys transportation needs. This role includes managing vehicle reservations and inventory overseeing and coordinating maintenance and repairs and supervising a team of motor pool staff. The Motor Pool Manager is responsible for implementing effective processes that ensure that all vehicles are available and in excellent condition to support the universitys various departments and programs.
This position oversees the daytoday operations such as vehicle dispatch and returns preventive maintenance inhouse and with service providers and monitoring the fleets usage to optimize vehicle allocation. Additionally the Motor Pool Manager provides customer service to university departments addressing specific transportation needs and managing concerns to ensure a smooth reservation experience. The Motor Pool Manager serves on the Transportation Services leadership team and as such coordinates with other Transportation Services staff to develop shared resources and opportunities.
The Motor Pool Manager works closely with the Associate Director of Transportation Services to develop policies and program goals and make recommendations for maintaining and improving program operational and financial efficiency. Budget management expense tracking fleet purchases and generating usage reports are also crucial aspects of this role.
The Motor Pool Manager is also responsible for compliance ensuring that all motor pool activities adhere to university policies and align with university state and federal regulations concerning health safety environmental standards codes emissions and driver authorization. Strong organizational and communication skills attention to detail and effective team management are essential in this role to maintain a high standard of safety and service across all motor pool operations.
It is an essential requirement of this position to qualify for and maintain UO drivers certification eligibility which includes maintaining an Oregon drivers license throughout employment in this position. This unit may provide essential services during times of emergencies and inclement weather. This position may be required to fulfill essential services and functions during these times.
Associates degree from an accredited college or university OR equivalent education and experience.
Two years of experience in supervision including team development planning and assigning work disciplinary action hiring/firing and performance
reviews.
One year experience with budgeting expense tracking and generating usage or maintenance reports.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Knowledge of fleet maintenance practices vehicle safety standards and preventative maintenance scheduling.
Valid drivers license with a clean driving record.
Ability to obtain required university certifications related to vehicle operations.
Excellent organizational and timemanagement skills with an ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
Effective communication skills both written and verbal with a customerfocused approach to service.
Ability to maintain a respectful and inclusive workplace and model a positive and proactive attitude with a diverse team.
Strong analytical problem identification and resolution skills.
Demonstrated ability to consistently complete assignments and perform functions in a timely manner with minimal errors.
Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing; effectively presenting reports and plans in a clear and concise manner.
Bachelors degree in Business Administration Transportation Management or a related field.
Experience working in management or operations in a university or public sector.
Experience with university systems policies and procedures.
Experience with fleet management software.
Familiarity with enterpriselevel financial systems such as Banner or Oracle.
Experience managing contracts and monitoring performance of outside vendors.
Familiarity with state and federal regulations related to vehicle safety emissions and driver authorization.
Understanding of route planning logistics.
Supervisory experience in a unionized setting.
