Job Description

General Summary

This posting will remain open until the position is filled priority consider will be given for application received by April 27 2025.

The Academic Pathway Advisor Lead provides academic advising educational planning and retention services for students enrolled in creditbearing academic programs at Highline College. The Academic Pathway Advisor Lead utilizes proactive advising strategies to engage students in career exploration educational planning course selection and enrollment completion and transfer. Advising may be conducted inperson virtually or by email/phone in 1on1 or group sessions. The Academic Pathway Advisor Lead remains current on certificate/degree programs transfer options and careers within the college pathways.

Additionally the Academic Pathway Advisor Lead will support the Director of Advising Career and Transfer Services and advising leadership administratively by collecting/tracking data on departmental services as well as leading the development and implementation of advisingrelated programming and workshops for students.

This is an salaried overtimeeligible atwill fulltime position.

Regular work schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00pm with occasional evening and weekend hours. Work schedules are modified during the summer per discretion of the College.

Essential Tasks

Reporting to the Director of Advising Career & Transfer Services this position will:

Advising 50

  • Advise students on course selection based on their goals related to degree/certificate requirements transfer and career;
  • Support students with exploring academic options identifying appropriate courses navigating college processes and begin to consider their next steps of transfer beginning an applied bachelor program or entering a career field;
  • Assist new students with defining and setting educational goals and developing longterm academic plans that outline courses required for degree/certificate completion;
  • Support exploratory/undecided students with exploring educational and career pathways through Highline degree pathways and guided pathways framework;
  • Teach students how to access and use advising tools services and other academic resources;
  • Develop and facilitate advising workshops/sessions;
  • Evaluate unofficial high school and college transcripts for course placement and initial degree planning;
  • Communicate and interpret academic policies and procedures to students;
  • Maintain electronic student records documenting and summarizing advising sessions through notes;
  • Adhere to institutional state and federal policies related to confidentiality and required reporting;
  • Develop relationships with faculty to support faculty advising initiatives and facilitate student advising connections with faculty;
  • Remain wellinformed on trends and promising practices in academic advising university transfer student success and retention DEI and related topics.

Academic Standards and Retention Support 30

  • Support students who do not meet Highline Colleges Academic Standards Policy by helping students outline a plan which identifies strategies for academic success;
  • Work closely with the Director of Advising Career and Transfer Services and the Academic Standards Program Manager in administering programming and services for students who do not meet Highline Colleges Academic Standards policy;
  • Support student retention and success through 1on1 advising and workshops/small group advising sessions;
  • Help students develop selfefficacy and soft skills such as communication time management and growth mindset;
  • Teach students how to navigate the college environment understand college policies and procedures access campus resources and utilize advising tools;
  • Make referrals to appropriate resources and services to support student success;
  • Work closely with staff across campus who provide resources and services to stay updated of various resources for students.

Administrative 20

  • Collect/track analyze and report data related to departmental services provided around advising and academic standards/retention services;
  • Event planning and coordination of departmental events and workshops;
  • Develop and update departmental resources including advising guides handouts forms publications presentations and web pages;
  • Assist the Director of Advising Career and Transfer Services with training on policies and practices related to academic advising;
  • Update academic advising training guides and materials as necessary;
  • Provide front desk support (inperson phone and email) as necessary which includes welcoming and triaging students checking in students for appointments making referrals and responding to general inquiries;
  • Actively engage in campus committees meetings events trainings and professional development opportunities to further develop professional competencies and knowledge;
  • Perform general office tasks and other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records in accordance with federal and institutional policies;
  • Proficiency in technology including Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook Sharepoint Google Workspace Canvas and ctcLink (PeopleSoft) and ability to learn new applications.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution; AND
  • Two years of experience in academic advising student services case management or a closely related role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in education student development higher education administration counseling psychology human services or related field from an accredited institution;
  • Knowledge of student development theories and promising practices in academic advising and student retention;
  • Experience working in higher education particularly at a community college;
  • Experience using advising tools/technology such as ctcLink (PeopleSoft) Watermark Student Success & Engagement Pathway Mapper Vita Navis Handshake or similar platforms;
  • Fluency speaking a language other than English (Spanish preferred).
