Job Description

Title: Individual Contractor for Research Study
Department: Early Childhood Development
Location: Arusha or Tabora
Reports To: Senior Manager Early Childhood Development
Classification: Temporary

How will you contribute to Early Childhood Development impact
The Individual Contract will play a key role in supporting Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) Malezi III Project. These include support data collection activities such as conducting focus group discussions indepth interviews and review of financial documents as per research objectives. The Individual Contractors will work closely with the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Project team Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator Research and Evaluation team and the Senior Manager Early Childhood Development to implement research activities for EGPAF Malezi III Project in research councils in Arusha and Tabora regions. This role will position EGPAF Tanzania as a leader in implementing ECD related researches aiming at improving ECD services for children adolescents and their families.

Qualitative Individual Contractors post 3 positions To work in Arusha or Tabora)

Specific Responsibilities

  • Focus Group Discussions: Conduct Focus Discussions (FGDs) with caregivers at Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) and Out Patient Department (OPD) clinics.
  • InDepth Interviews: Conduct Indepth Interviews (IDIs) with Health Care Workers (HCWs) working at RCH and Labor Wards.
  • Transcription: Support transcription of focus group discussions and indepth interviews data using qualified transcription software.
  • Translation: Support translation of FGDs and IDIs collected data from Swahili to English language.

Qualifications :

To be successful you will have

  • A bachelors degree / Advance diploma in computer science sociology or a related discipline is required. A masters degree is a strong advantage.
  • Graduates with a major in public health sociology or a related field may be considered.

Experience

  • High experience in conducting focus group discussions and indepth interviews is highly desirable.
  • High experience in note taking during focus group discussions and indepth interviews is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience on transcription and translation of FGDs and IDIs is a strong advantage.

Skills

  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel data collection tools software like KoboToolbox and MAXQDA qualitative software.
  • Strong skills in transcribing qualitative data and translation from Swahili to English Language.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

Knowledge

  • Familiarity with moderation of focus group discussions and indepth interviews.
  • Understanding of information privacy and confidentiality practices.

Personal Attributes

  • Strong ethical conduct and integrity.
  • Ability to engage with diverse populations in a respectful and empathetic manner.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in varying field conditions and environments.

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to travel to various research sites including working beyond regular hours when necessary.
  • Proficiency in Kiswahili and English.

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) began supporting HIV and AIDS programming in Tanzania in 2003 and established a country office in 2004. Since then in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health and other key partners EGPAF has expanded its scope to include integrated HIV GBV TB and Family Planning  and Early Childhood services.
