The University of Nevada Las Vegas invites applications for Director of Student Success College of Engineering R0146677.
ROLE of the POSITION
The Director of Student Success in the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering plays a critical role in enhancing student success and improving retention progression and completion (RPC) rates. This position supports the colleges mission to achieve Top Tier status by implementing strategic student success initiatives that foster academic excellence social integration and a sense of community among engineering computer science and engineering technology students. The primary focus is on supporting first and secondyear students by addressing academic and personal challenges that impact their progression.
The director collaborates closely with faculty staff and campus partners to develop and manage programs designed to enhance the student experience and ensure academic readiness. Key initiatives include math and computer science bridge programs intervention strategies for math and physics academic success plans FirstYear and SecondYear Seminar courses and peer mentoring programs. Additionally the director facilitates workshops study groups and leadership development programs to prepare students for academic and professional success.
A critical component of the role involves assessing the effectiveness of student success initiatives through datadriven analysis performance metrics and alignment with accreditation standards from organizations such as ABET ACCE and NWCCU. The director plays a vital role in securing funding through federal state and local sources to sustain and expand student success initiatives.
Beyond internal efforts the director builds community and industry partnerships to expand student opportunities strengthen industry connections and create pathways for student success beyond the classroom. By engaging in strategic planning faculty collaboration and student support services the Director of Student Success ensures that the College of Engineering continues to develop a diverse wellsupported and academically prepared student body.
Profile of the College of Engineering
The Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) serves nearly 4000 students with a faculty of approximately 90 members. The college offers undergraduate masters and doctoral programs in civil and environmental engineering electrical and computer engineering mechanical engineering and computer science along with specialized tracks in cybersecurity engineering technology robotics artificial intelligence nuclear engineering and biomedical engineering.
Faculty and students engage in highimpact research supported by federal agencies and industry partners focusing on renewable energy robotics semiconductor advanced manufacturing cybersecurity transportation and biomedical technologies. Stateoftheart research labs and innovation spaces provide handson learning experiences that prepare students for careers in engineering and technology.
The college is committed to student success through firstyear and secondyear experience programs summer bridge initiatives and mentoring opportunities. Strong industry collaborations offer students internships senior design projects and career networking opportunities. The college also supports broader participation in STEM fields ensuring that students are wellprepared to contribute to Nevadas growing technologydriven economy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires abachelors degree in engineering education management communication or related fields from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date. In addition this position requires at least three years of the following experience:
Higher Education Experience
Demonstrated experience working within a higher education setting.
Familiarity with policies processes and student support services in universities or colleges.
Project and Program Management
Proven ability to design implement and evaluate student success programs.
Experience managing multiple projects or assignments simultaneously.
Data Collection and Program Evaluation
Handson experience in designing data collection efforts and analyzing results.
Demonstrated success in using data to evaluate the effectiveness of programs or initiatives.
Communication and Collaboration
Significant experience in verbal and written communication with diverse audiences including students faculty and staff.
Experience collaborating with various campus units and external stakeholders.
Advising and Guidance
Extensive experience providing academic or personal advising to students particularly those in STEM fields.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates with the following credentials and experiences will be given preference:
Education
A masters degree from an accredited college or university.
Accreditation Support
Experience supporting accreditation processes for organizations such as ABET ACCE and NWCCU.
Grant Writing and Funding Support
Demonstrated experience in writing proposals and securing grant funding to support educational programs student success initiatives or institutional projects.
Technology and Communication Tools
Proficiency in managing communication platforms and social media tools for student and faculty engagement.
Familiarity with data analysis graphics and visualization tools to assess and report on program outcomes.
Professional Development and Training
Experience in organizing and facilitating workshops training sessions or mentoring programs designed to support students faculty or staff in achieving academic and professional success.
Outreach and Partnerships
Proven success in building and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders to create student opportunities.
Experience working with diverse student populations including transfer students firstyear students and students in programs supporting underrepresented populations.
