The Phillips Lab conducts a wide variety of research in the biology and genetics of aging and stress responses using Caenorhabditis species as a model. This includes the advancement of genetic engineering tools for highthroughput experimentation and the utilization of synthetic biology approaches.
The Institute of Ecology and Evolution (IE) facilitates research and graduate education in ecology and evolutionary biology. The institute fosters a collegial and stimulating intellectual environment for worldclass research in molecular evolution evolutionary genetics evolution of development and microbial population community and ecosystems ecology.
The Phillips lab plans to make multiple hires for research positions at the appropriate rank to be responsible for supporting synthetic and molecular biology projects by generating complex transgenics using CRISPRCas9 technology and conducting highthroughput screens. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to: single cell/single nuclei isolation and sorting by flow cytometry (FACS) microinjections and preparation of sequencing libraries. Work will be conducted largely independently with guidance from senior members of the synthetic biology group.
To qualify for the rank of Research Assistant:
Bachelors degree in biology or related field
To qualify for the rank of Research Scientist or Research Engineer:
Bachelors degree in biology or related field
Technical skills and experience relevant to position needs
To qualify for the rank of Research Associate:
PhD in biology or related field
High level of organization and attention to detail.
Ability to keep a detailed electronic notebook.
Ability to complete repetitive but delicate tasks with a high degree of precision.
Ability to prioritize work demands on diverse projects and coordinate research protocols with other staff and students.
Ability to provide updates on project progression to the lab group in writing and in person.
Experience with singlecell and/or nuclear isolation.
Experience with flow cytometry.
Experience with microinjection.
Experience in handling and maintaining Caenorhabditis.
Familiarity with basic molecular biology techniques such as DNA isolation and PCR.
Familiarity with CRISPR genome engineering.
Familiarity with NGS sequencing methods (Illumina Oxford nanopore).
