Are you passionate about developing generative AI LLM and Vision solutions to revolutionize content understanding automation and robotics Are you looking for opportunities to build and deploy them on realworld problems at a massive scale At Amazon Fulfillment Technologies and Robotics we are on a mission to build highperformance AI/Vision/NLP systems that understand and act to further improve our worldclass customer experience at Amazon scale.
This role is with the Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) AI team a group with deep expertise in developing and deploying AI solutions at scale to address complex business challenges within the Amazon Fulfillment Network. Our solutions leverage advanced techniques in machine learning computer vision and natural language processing applied to a variety of data types including text event sequences images and videooften drawn from both existing and new hardware. The team is composed of scientists focused on creating innovative machine learning NLP and vision models analysts who assess the business impact and performance of these solutions and software engineers who build and maintain the necessary infrastructure including ML pipeline setup annotation pipelines and library development.
We are seeking an Applied Scientist with expertise in NLP (and preferably large language models). In this role you will collaborate with a diverse team of scientists engineers product managers and stakeholders to develop and scale innovative models across a wide range of initiatives. If you are a proactive customerfocused individual with a passion for solving realworld problems through NLP and thrive in a setting that values ownership and impact this is the team for you.
Key job responsibilities
Apply your expertise in AI/NLP/LLM to design train test and implement scalable solutions that address complex languagerelated challenges alongside our partner teams.
Collaborate with crossfunctional teams including software engineers data scientists and product managers to define project requirements establish success metrics and deliver highquality solutions.
Embrace a high level of research ambiguity that require creative ambitious and inventive solutions.
Continuously explore and evaluate stateoftheart NLP techniques and methodologies to improve the accuracy and efficiency of languagerelated systems.
Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders providing clear explanations and guidance on proposed solutions and their potential impact.
Be a selfstarter with a bias towards independent problem solving.

About the team
Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) powers Amazons global fulfillment network. We invent and deliver software hardware and data science solutions that orchestrate processes robots machines and people. We harmonize the physical and virtual world so Amazon customers can get what they want when they want it.
The AFT AI team has deep expertise developing AI solutions at scale and successfully applying them to business problems in the Amazon Fulfillment Network. These solutions typically utilize machine learning and computer vision techniques applied to text sequences of events images or video from existing or new hardware. We influence each stage of innovation from inception to deployment developing a research plan creating and testing prototype solutions and shepherding the production versions to launch.
Our team is the central machine learning and computer vision team supporting all of AFT. The team is comprised of scientists who develop machine learning and computer vision solutions analytics who evaluate the expected business impact for a project and the performance of these solutions and software engineers who provide necessary support such as annotation pipelines and machine learning library development.
PhD or Masters degree and 4 years of CS CE ML or related field experience
Experience programming in Java C Python or related language
Experience developing and implementing deep learning algorithms particularly with respect to computer vision algorithms
Experience in patents or publications at toptier peerreviewed conferences or journals
1 years of building models for business application experience
Experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment
Experience with stateoftheart deep learning and data science frameworks like PyTorch TensorFlow Pandas
Expertise in NLP (and preferably large language models).
Experience using Unix/Linux
Experience in professional software development
Experience and knowledge of working with LLM frameworks like LangChain or LlamaIndex and familiarity with LLM improvement and finetuning techniques (SFT RLHF DPO and prompt engineering)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on jobrelated knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered equity signon payments and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits.
