Summary of Job Duties:

The preceptor responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

Completing all documentation required to be associated with UAHT as set forth by Arkansas Law and UAHT Policy
Adhering to the Programs Preceptor Handbook and guidelines
Creating a positive learning environment
Overseeing the progress of their assigned student during the internship section of education
Allowing the student to act as team lead during actual patient encounters
Verifying the students documentation for each patient encounter and internship rotation
Aiding the student acquiring skill competency
Mentoring the student in all functions procedures tasks and attitudes associated with an entrylevel paramedic.
Regularly offering feedback (favorable and corrective) to the student on documentation
Conducting ones self as an affective role model for the student
Participating in student performance review meetings
Ensuring student confidentiality in accordance with The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA)

Preceptor Effectiveness

Preceptors will be monitored for effectiveness in delivering the internship process through the following measures:

1. The ability to complete the internship requirements including but not limited to:
a. the Program time frame
b. adequate number of procedures performed by the student
c. student completion of the Program graduation requirements
2. The ability to complete documentation including but not limited to:
a. signatures on internship rotation documents
b. completed daily evaluation forms
c. adequate feedback to the student (favorable and corrective)
d. communication with Program staff (verbal and/or written)
Evaluation by the student through a preceptor evaluation tool


Qualifications:

A current unencumbered license in the state the Internship will occur.

2. A minimum of 2 years of experience at the level of paramedic or above.

3. A current affiliation agreement at the ambulance service the internship is to take place.

4. Approval from the UAHT Program Director.

5. Approval from the UAHT Medical Director.

6. Approval from a direct or indirect supervisor of the preceptor (to acknowledge the industries confidence in the ability of the preceptor).

7. Completion of the UAHT Preceptor training (training will be offer annually)
