If you love high profile and challenging projects supporting the Navy Serco has a great opportunity for you! This Senior Level Mechanical Engineer position will be on a dynamic team responsible for engineering support acquisition management and life cycle support of surface naval platforms for our customer in Tidewater Virgina area. Bring your expertise and collaborative skills to make an impact towards our national security.

This position is contingent upon your ability to maintain your Secret level clearance. This position is also contingent upon contract award.

Serco supports the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) including support for the design acquisition testing and sustainment of naval vessels. You will be part of a team that works closely with the customer to deliver management engineering acquisition and logistics support required to conduct RDT&E trials system installations and maintenance and sustainment in support of Navy vessels. Serco has been supporting the Naval Sea Systems Command for over 50 years and has been recognized by the Navy for their outstanding contributions.

In this role you will:

  • Support the Program and Project Manager in the planning direction and success of major projects systems development efforts and research or technology initiatives which have great significance to NAVSEA. Programs are typically large multiyear efforts divided into several subprograms/tasks.
  • Lead team in the application of the theories and principles of science and mathematics to research and develop economical solutions to technical problems.
  • Design products machinery implement improved ways to extract process and use new materials to improve the performance of naval systems and take advantage of advances in technology.
  • Analyze the impact of the products they develop or the systems they design on the environment and on the people using them.
  • Support the testing production or maintenance by supervising production determining the causes of breakdowns and the testing of manufactured products to maintain quality.
  • Estimate the time and cost to complete projects.
  • Use computers to assist in efficiently performing computations and for modeling and simulation of new designs as well as facilitating changes to existing designs.
  • Use ComputerAided Design (CAD) and ComputerAided Manufacturing (CAM) for design data processing and for turning the design into a product.
  • Support the design of prototype systems write performance requirements and develop maintenance schedules.
  • Test equipment solve operating problems and estimate the time and cost of engineering projects.
  • Collect technical data from appropriate documentation (e.g. technical manuals and internal and external reports) automated files and other staff.
  • Determine and interpret equipment characteristics data performs necessary analysis and transcribes to required formats.
  • Assist staff in moderately technical aspects of project work.
  • Acquire a working knowledge of customer databases and of the types of information stored in each file.
  • Assist in the preparation of appropriate technical documentation.
  • As required verbally present information at project review sessions and in informal interface with customers.
  • Comply with security procedures in the performance of duties.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Bachelor level degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 5 years experience in the operation management and sustainment of maritime vessels.
  • An active clearance is required to be considered.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Proficiency in technical writing.
  • Proficiency with MSOffice software to include MS Word MS Excel MS Access and MS Power Point.
  • Travel may be required up to 10.
