Job Description
The Brearley School an independent girls school serving over 770 students K12 welcomes candidates for a fulltime position as a Teacher of Middle and Upper School English beginning August 2025.
- teaching four courses in the English curriculum in grades six through twelve
- participating in gradelevel team planning meetings with English colleagues
- implementing an inclusive antibias and antiracist pedagogy
- contributing to the life of the school and the students outside of the department
The ideal candidate will:
- have three to five years of teaching experience
- have an advanced degree in English or a related subject and competence in teaching literature of different time periods and genres
- have expertise in one or more of the following: the literatures of the United States; diasporic or transnational literature; poetry; creative writing; the teaching of grammar
- possess excellent oral and written communication skills
- demonstrate a sincere interest in young people
- have a commitment to teaching both Middle and Upper School students
- have a commitment to helping students think independently and develop confidence in their own abilities
- be collegial and enjoy working collaboratively on the curriculum
- demonstrate cultural competency

Salary
Inthe total salary for this position ranges from $78500 to $158500 depending on years of fulltime teaching experience.
