Opening Lifeguard

The Lifeguard ensures safety in YMCA pools and aquatics areas to all members guests and program participants enforces rules and guidelines in accordance with YMCA policies responds to member and guest needs provides customer service and maintains a safe aquatics environment.

*This position is for opening lifeguard shifts from 4:45am to 8:00am*

• Communicates and enforces aquatics rules and guidelines to insure a safe working environment.
• Properly opens performs daily tasks and closes aquatics area each day according to Standard Operating Procedures.
• Provides excellent service to members guests and program participants.
• Maintains a clean safe fully stocked and well organized work area.
• Handles and resolves aquatics concerns and informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
• Provides accurate appropriate and immediate responses to all requests by members/guests.
• Works without constant direct supervision and remains at assigned post for extended periods of time.
• Maintains a positive attitude and contributes toward a quality work environment.
• Maintains positive relations at all times with members participants and coworkers.
• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers
• Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
• Adhere to procedures related to managing highrisk activities and supervising consumers
• Follow mandated reporting requirements
• Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities
  

• Current lifeguard CPR First Aid & AED Certification. (American Red Cross or YMCA)
• One year of relevant experience.
• Able to communicate and enforce policies and procedures to members program participants and guests.
• Able to react quickly and properly in emergency situations.
• Must have enthusiasm and possess excellent customer service skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Complete Blood Bourne Pathogen and Child Abuse Prevention training within first 30days of employment.

Lifeguard Certification is required prior to being hired as a lifeguard. If you do not have your Lifeguarding Certification the YMCA of Greenville does offer Lifeguard Certification Classes. For more information on the classes please visit our website at
