Job Description

Position Summary
The Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy invites nominations and applications for a visionary scholar to serve as a faculty member in the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy and holder of the Eileen Lamb OGara Endowed Chair in Womens Philanthropy . This is a tenmonth associate or full professor tenured position. Applications submitted by November 30 2022 will receive best consideration. However the position will remain open until filled. The chair holder is expected to provide national / international leadership in the study of gender and philanthropic giving broadly defined. This includes a variety of topics such as gender and charitable donating volunteering and informal prosocial behaviors along with traits and motivations related to those behaviors. This also includes gender and philanthropy topics at other levels of analysis beyond individual behaviors (e.g. historical organizational societal crossnational analyses). The successful candidate will have an existing or developing research portfolio on gender and philanthropy. The candidates background may come from Philanthropic or Nonprofit Studies History Womens Studies Religious Studies Sociology Economics Psychology Anthropology Political Science Public Administration or other appropriate disciplinary areas. Successful candidates must also demonstrate evidence of high quality teaching. A candidate who meets the requirements for an Indiana University titled professorship will have the title of Professor of Philanthropic Studies and the Eileen Lamb OGara Chair in Womens Philanthropy. Such candidates must have advanced rank and will have a substantive research portfolio. Candidates who demonstrate a growing national or international reputation in womens philanthropy but not yet at that level of full professor will have the title of Associate Professor of Philanthropic Studies and Eileen Lamb OGara Fellow in Womens Philanthropy. As a faculty member The Eileen Lamb OGara Chair holder will provide intellectual leadership to the school and the field through active research and teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Regardless of the rank the faculty of the school will look for an excellent scholar who will thrive in our collegial community engage in building the field of philanthropic studies and demonstrate an interest in engaging current and future practitioners. The Womens Philanthropy Institute WPI at the IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy is recognized as the global nexus for study and education about womens philanthropy and its original research leads to a better understanding of the powerful role women play in philanthropy. See institute/ . The WPI is unique in its scope and comprehensive overview of womens philanthropy. It is the only such unit in the world allied with an academic institution and dedicated to research education and knowledge dissemination for all facets of the field. It is also the only organization to examine all aspects of womens philanthropy from unique structures and models to the multiple roles of women in philanthropy. The Eileen Lamb OGara Chair holder is expected to become an integral member of the WPI . The Chair will work with the WPIs staff to coordinate the Institutes extant research as well as developing new research agendas on womens philanthropy. Specifically the Chair will be involved in producing the WPI signature Women Give reports and other research reports published through current and future research grant funding as well supporting other external public engagement efforts. The Lilly Family School of Philanthropy is located on the Indiana UniversityPurdue University Indianapolis IUPUI campus. The School has 20 core faculty and an additional 46 affiliate and adjunct faculty from 21 disciplines on the IUPUI and IU Bloomington campuses all with current active teaching and research interests in philanthropic nonprofit and civil society studies. Building on the Center on Philanthropys 30 year history the School values a multidisciplinary approach to understanding philanthropy with faculty appointees trained in the humanities social sciences and other fields. It offers degrees at the Ph.D. professional doctorate masters and undergraduate levels to educate the next generation of scholars and professionals. The Schools research environment includes internal grants to catalyze new research the Lake Institute on Faith and Giving the Womens Philanthropy Institute The Fund Raising School the Mays Institute on Diversity and Inclusion the Philanthropy Panel Study the Payton Philanthropic Studies Library and the Ruth Lilly Archives. The Center for Service and Learning provides resources for civic engagement and service learning components in courses.
