Job Description

Designer Interiors Nonfiction

Join Penguin Random House as a Designer focusing primarily on book interiors for a wide variety of demandfocused trenddriven original titles and adaptations. The Designer may also work on cover art projects and will be responsible for multiple simultaneous design projects across genres through all stages of production in an effort to bring books to market quickly.

Specifically the Designer will:

  1. Prepare mechanicals from creation to final product including: setting up templates designing layouts and choosing typography etc.
  2. Oversee trafficking of freelanced projects and maintain design schedules and databases.
  3. Commission and direct freelance illustrators and photographers to produce cover art.
  4. Maintain current knowledge of design trends best practices and systems/applications to ensure high quality designs.

  • Minimum of 4 years of interior and/or book cover design within trade publishing
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign Photoshop Acrobat Illustrator)
  • Highly creative with evidence of fine design sense and typography sensitivity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to juggle multiple projects while adhering to tight deadlines within a fastpaced environment
  • Proficiency with workflow and file sharing tools is a plus
