Your Responsibilities:

As an Education Program Consultant for Specially Designed Instruction in Math you will serve as a leader providing technical assistance and guidance on the following:

  • Lead the statewide scaling and implementation of evidencebased practices for the delivery of specially designed instruction for students with needs in the area of mathematics. This includes participation in existing statewide collaborative implementation and scaling structures including:
    1. facilitation of or membership on statewide development and delivery teams;
    2. providing technical assistance focusing on evaluation for instructional design; designing instruction and delivering instruction and other supports;
    3. using implementation science to support scaling and implementation efforts.
    4. integrating SDI Math professional learning and supports into IDEADifferentiated Accountability.
  • Collaborate with other education program consultants and administrative consultants across the division to promote and improve integration of highquality evidencebased SDI and Multitiered System of Supports (MTSS) into guidance support and technical assistance provided by the Department.
  • Work collaboratively with external partners and infrastructure components of the Statewide Special Education Leadership Network (e.g. Procedures Governance Council and ACHIEVE Governance Council).

Hours:8:00 A.M. 4:30 P.M. Monday Friday with some in and out of state travel


A successful candidate will bring or have the ability and desire to learn:

  • Experience interpreting federal regulations and legal history and applying that to unique situations to recommend actions to educators for students with academic needs
  • Experience establishing project plans including evaluation of progress budgets and program implementation to support quality projects for students with academic needs
  • Leadership experience in settings and situations with students with academic needs particularly in math
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to present information to diverse stakeholders creation and maintenance of reports guidance and written resources
  • Ability to manage self in relation to prioritization and time management
  • Conflict resolution and interpersonal skills
  • Desire to work with diverse teams and stakeholders

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1 Graduation from an accredited fouryear college or university and five years of fulltime postgraduate work experience in any one or a combination of the following areas:

a. Professional training teaching or counseling experience in an educational setting;

b. Professional administrative experience in an educational setting;

c. Professional personnel administration including such areas as job analysis performance appraisal systems selection devices or labor relations;

d. Professional finance accounting or auditing experience including the preparation or analysis of financial statements;

e. Professional experience in a major technical program area utilized by the Iowa Department of Education or Board of Educational Examiners.

2 A combination of a total of five years of postgraduate education and fulltime experience (as described in number one) where twentyfour semester hours of accredited postgraduate college or university course work equals one year of fulltime experience.

3 Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Masters degree possession of a valid Iowa Teaching Certificate and three academic years of teaching and/or administrative experience in PK12 and/or a postsecondary educational institution.

4 Possession of a School Business Official Authorization from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners and seven years of fulltime professional experience in finance accounting or auditing including the preparation or analysis of financial statements.
