Job Description

We have an opening for a Sr. Electronics Technologist.  You will develop test troubleshoot evaluate operate and maintain experimental research and prototype equipment associated with electronic controls systems within the National Ignition Facility & Photon Science (NIF&PS) Directorate.  NIF is a 24/7 operational facility and may occasionally require working overtime shifts and/or weekends to accomplish goals; some work will occur in Radiological environments. This position is in the Laser Systems Engineering and Operations (LSEO) Division within the Engineering Directorate.

You will

  • Independently deploy fabricate assemble disassemble and perform comprehensive troubleshooting of complex electronic components and systems including planning and selecting materials and equipment interpreting standards establishing methods and setting priorities.
  • Independently identify analyze and provide solutions and alternative approaches to complex electronic problems using advanced methods innovation and judgment.
  • Develop author implement assess or modify instructional guides for repairing calibrating operating and maintaining equipment and systems.
  • Interpret standards and use advanced technical skills to evaluate and recommend methods and priorities for electronics maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Provide advanced technical support to engineering tests physics experiments and program operations.
  • Contribute to complex preliminary design concepts and engineering decision processes. 
  • Assist in developing complex test parameters troubleshooting and testing materials components or systems identifying problems and providing input on solutions.
  • Prioritize and provide work and technical guidance to others by checking for accuracy completeness and function.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Qlevel security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Associate degree in electronics engineering technology or equivalent combination of education and related electronics/electrical industrial maintenance experience.
  • Substantial experience and advanced skills in electronic troubleshooting and assembly.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering hardware testing processes.
  • Broad experience with some aspect of advanced level electronic assembly troubleshooting installation and/or maintenance.
  • Experience in safe work and business practices.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Effective written verbal feedback and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. in a safe and controlled manner.      

Qualifications We Desire

  • Bachelors degree in electronics engineering technology or equivalent combination of education and related electronics/electrical industrial maintenance experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of advanced electronic technology and substantial experience working on a technical project team and providing technical direction to others.
  • Advanced level technical skills and indepth knowledge of engineering principles to solve complex problems.
