Job Description
The AbbVie Process Chemistry Chromatographic Separations Lab is actively seeking a Sr. Scientist I with experience in analytical and preparative chromatographic method development. Our team collaborates with colleagues across multiple disciplines offering expertise in preparative chromatography to support a broad range of AbbVie R&D programs. We maintain and utilize specialized equipment for a variety separation tasks including the purification of peptides ADC druglinkers and chiral compounds as well as the isolation of lowlevel small molecule API impurities. Additionally the team is responsible for pilotscale preparative purification developing scalable purification processes and overseeing their implementation under cGMP guidelines at AbbVies North Chicago Chemical Pilot Plant. This role will contribute to the development of novel/advanced separations technologies and broader efforts to develop new process technologies for advancing the AbbVie pipeline including the application of machine learning strategies.
We are looking for a highly motivated scientist capable of conceiving implementing and executing novel research and development projects. Ideal candidates will have handson experience developing chromatographic methods and troubleshooting complex separation challenges. Experience working with peptides is highly desirable though not strictly required for application.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute purification processes to support the clinical development of potential therapies including small molecules antibody drug conjugates and peptides.
- Routinely demonstrate scientific initiative and creativity in research and development activities to resolve key project hurdles.
- Build strong relationships with peers and crossfunctional partners to enhance performance.
- Operate with autonomy and maintain a high level of productivity in laboratory research and method development with minimal supervision.
- Foster a learning environment welcome diverse ideas and encourage experimentation for improvement.
- Adhere to corporate standards for conduct safety quality and proper handling of materials.
Qualifications :
Qualifications
- Bachelors Masters or PhD Degree in chemistry or chemical engineering with typically 10 (BS) 8 (MS) or 0 (PhD) years of experience.
- Strong technical background in Separations Science. Capable of independently developing and troubleshooting chromatographic methods.
- A broad range of functional expertise in modern analytical analysis techniques with an emphasis on chromatography compound purification spectral analysis and interpretation.
- An ability to search chemical literature and evaluate potential solutions to research problems.
- Highquality written and oral communication skills and ability to interact effectively with interdisciplinary scientists and engineers.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
