Job Description

Process engineers in Product Development Science and Technology support API and natural products projects through all phases of latestage development commercialization and product life cycle. This position is responsible for ensuring that processes can be run safely addressing scaleup issues and developing and implementing robust API process steps from the lab to a manufacturing environment. The engineer is responsible for assessing key unit operations (e.g. reactions crystallizations) for process robustness scientific understanding and potential scaleup risks and investigating engineering challenges during commercial manufacturing. Effective crossfunctional interactions with other functions (e.g. technical quality regulatory) and onsite manufacturing personnel are key for successful job performance.

Purpose:

Conceive develop and execute novel scientific research or development leading to scalable and robust engineering processes for key modalities (e.g. small molecule APIs antibody drug conjugates and natural products). Lead initiatives investigate identify develop and optimize new methods and techniques in his/her area of technical expertise and effectively communicate findings in a multidisciplinary team. Critically evaluate relevant scientific and regulatory advances and integrate this knowledge into pipeline and commercial programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Leverage core chemical engineering principles (chemical kinetics transport phenomena thermodynamics mathematical modeling) in experimental design thought process in problemsolving and data analysis.
  • Seize opportunities to pursue project relevant leads that are in line with the groups strategy. Proactively seek out current technology and literature and incorporate into individual project/program that make Abbvie more competitive.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve key project hurdles and assumptions by effectively utilizing available information scientific creativity and technical expertise.
  • Maintain autonomous and productive performance in laboratory experimentation pilot plant and/or manufacturing support space requiring only minimal direction from or interaction with supervisor.
  • Formulate conclusions and design followon experiments based on multidisciplinary data.
  • Pursue areas of investigation that are scientifically impactful to development and pipeline programs or current commercial programs.  Effective investigation and troubleshooting of product failures and recommendations for remediation.
  • Author of publications presentations technical reports regulatory documents and/or patents.
  • Demonstrate high proficiency across a wide range of relevant technologies.
  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct safety appropriate handling of materials controlled drug and radioactive compounds and GxP compliance.
  • Be a subject matter expert to other functions within the project team. Anticipate recognize and resolve problems while functioning as the technical expert on cross functional teams.

Qualifications :

 

  • BS MS or PhD in chemical engineering or a related field and 12 (BS) 10 (MS) or 3 (PhD) years of relevant industrial experience.
  • Possess thorough theoretical and practical understanding of own scientific discipline.
  • Possesses outstanding process modeling and simulation skills.
  • Possesses excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
