Please check our residency definition to determine if you qualify.The Alaska Department of Fish and Game Division of Habitat is recruiting for a Fish and Game Coordinator (Regional Supervisor) located in Anchorage!
What you will be doing:
This position is responsible for the oversight of all ADF&G Habitat Region 2 activities. Specific responsibilities include preparing and tracking the annual budget; reviewing and signing all correspondence including Fish Habitat and Special Area Permits; reviewing and commenting on state and federal actions; performing field reviews and compliance actions for Title 16 activities; reviewing and commenting on forestry activities; and preparing departmental comments on resource development projects. The incumbent is responsible for working collaboratively with the Division of Sport Fish to review and approve nominations to the Anadromous Waters Catalog (AWC) and to annually compile and submit the regulatory components to update the AWC. The incumbent is also responsible for directing and evaluating the work of multiple habitat biologists and an administrative assistant; completing annual performance reviews; and filling/hiring positions as needed.

ADF&G Habitat is entrusted with the conservation of the states valuable fish and wildlife resources and their habitats as the population and economy continue to expand. Accordingly the incumbent is responsible for planning and performing biological surveys; and documenting and evaluating conditions of both predevelopment and ongoing conditions at various sites throughout southcentral Alaska. The incumbent may conduct applied research to identify ways to minimize impacts of development projects on fish and wildlife and their habitats and pursue opportunities to enhance and protect habitat in cooperation with other agencies and organizations. The incumbent will oversee the review and issuance of Title 16 permits for development activities in fishbearing waters and legislatively designated special areas.

The working conditions you can expect:
This position has a private office located within the ADF&G Raspberry Road building in Anchorage. The job entails a mix of office and field work that depends largely on the interests of the incumbent and projects proposed by applicants. The daily work environment includes working at a desk in an office setting with some opportunities for flexible scheduling. The community of Anchorage offers numerous recreational opportunities within reasonable distance including marine and freshwater fishing hunting skiing biking and hiking.
Required training which may be completed on the job include: law enforcement training; department firearms and wildlife safety; wilderness first aid CPR and AED. Additional training opportunities may include introduction to ArcPro; remote worker swift water safety; water ditching and survival; and electrofishing.
Field work is an important component of the job including monitoring construction projects fish sampling of a waterbody or habitat observations/trip report prior to during or after a development activity.

We are looking for an individual with the following competencies/knowledge skills and abilities:
Demonstrated ability to manage/evaluate/train professional biologists.
Ability to make reasonable and practicable decisions relative to resource development projects such as pipelines hardrock mines oil and gas and roads.
Demonstrated experience assessing fish and wildlife habitat/mitigation in relation to development projects.
Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
Strong working knowledge of the life histories and habitat requirements of anadromous and freshwater fishes in Alaska.

Minimum Qualifications
A bachelors degree from an accredited college in biology a branch of biology limnology biometrics oceanography forestry or natural resource management;
AND
Seven years of professional experience as a fisheries wildlife or habitat biologist that includes at least one year as a program manager or technical expert or two years at an advanced professional level. The program manager or technical expert experience is met by service as a Fisheries Biologist 4 Wildlife Biologist 4 or Habitat Biologist 4 and the advanced professional biologist experience is met by service as a Fisheries Biologist 3 Wildlife Biologist 3 or Habitat Biologist 3 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
Substitutions:
A bachelors degree from an accredited college that includes or is supplemented by the following credit hours will substitute for the degree in a specific field:
at least 24 semester hours 36 quarter hours) in biology a branch of biology limnology biometrics oceanography forestry or natural resource management (excluding courses that focus on agricultural husbandry techniques human population dynamics or the design and manipulation of landscapes) of which 16 semester hours 24 quarter hours) are upper division courses; and
at least 12 semester hours 16 quarter hours) in any combination of two or more of the following: chemistry physics mathematics statistics geology hydrology or GIS.
A masters degree in biology a branch of biology limnology biometrics oceanography forestry or natural resource management will substitute for one year of the required professional experience. There is no substitute for the requirement for specific experience as a program manager or technical expert or at an advanced professional level.
A doctorate in biology a branch of biology limnology biometrics oceanography forestry or natural resource management will substitute for three years of the required professional experience. There is no substitute for the requirement for specific experience as a program manager or technical expert or at an advanced professional level.

Such courses emphasize problemsolving analytical thinking skills and theoretical applications with depth and rigor in a disciplines theories and methods; specialization in a particular field or profession; refinement of general education; and/or development of specific intellectual and professional skills.
