The Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education (ACPE) is seeking a College Intern to perform administrative support and clerical accounting duties in a professional work environment.

ACPE is the States postsecondary education agency providing education and career funding solutions. Our Juneau office is conveniently located in the Vintage Business Park area of Mendenhall Valley close to the bus line with plenty of available parking.

Intern positions with the Commission are not eligible for State of Alaska health care leave or retirement benefits.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Preparing and processing accounting transactions including vendor payments interagency reimbursements and reconciling and clearing credit card transactions
  • Providing support to ACPEs Finance Division
  • Providing support to ACPEs other Divisions as needed
  • Assisting with special projects or tasks

The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge skills and abilities in the following areas:

  • Accounting Operations:Knowledge of general ledger accounting and reconciliation techniques including accounts receivable and accounts payable.
  • Computer Skills: Experience and/or education using computers and software applications such as Microsoft Office including Excel and Outlook databases and automated systems to accomplish work.
  • Customer Service:Ability toanticipate and meet the needs of both internal and external customers. Deliver highquality services with courtesy and professionalism. A commitment to continuous improvement in all areas of work.
  • Attention to Detail: Thoroughness and efficiency when performing work while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • SelfManagement: Sets welldefined and realistic goals; displays a high level of initiative effort and commitment towards accurately completing assignments in a timely manner; works with minimal supervision; is motivated to achieve; and demonstrates responsible behavior.

NOTE:

This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either range 8 or range 10 depending on the selected applicants qualifications. Preference will be given to applicants who are available to work during the academic year. However applicants seeking only summer employment will be considered.

Minimum Qualifications

Range 8

Currently accepted enrolled and attending an accredited college in an undergraduate degree program while maintaining an academic load of at least six credit hours per semester (eight credit hours per quarter) and meeting the institutions satisfactory academic progress (SAP) criteria.

Student is enrolled in and taking lower division courses which generally consist of core curriculum and introductory courses typically identified in college catalogs as 100 or 200 level.

Range 10

Currently accepted enrolled and attending an accredited college in an undergraduate degree program while maintaining an academic load of at least six credit hours per semester (eight credit hours per quarter) and meeting the institutions satisfactory academic progress (SAP) criteria.

Student is enrolled in and taking upper division courses that are specialized indepth and advanced typically identified in college catalogs as 300 level and higher.

Appointment and retention in this class series is restricted to students actively pursuing an undergraduate degree program in an accredited college maintaining an academic load of at least six semester (eight quarter) credit hours per semester (quarter) and meeting the institutions satisfactory academic progress standards. The successful candidate will be required to provide proof that they meet retention requirements by submitting transcripts at the end of each academic term.

Students who have completed spring semester courses and are enrolled in fall semester courses are considered to be attending college during the summer regardless of whether or not summer courses are taken.

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements if applicable. If utilizing this education you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs; or an accredited U.S. state university reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the state university. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

INTERVIEW

Applicants invited for an interview will be required to provide the following at time of interview:
