INTRODUCTION
The University of Hawaii at Manoa (UH Manoa) is the only Doctoral/Research UniversityExtensive (Carnegie classification) in Hawaii. The School of Architecture offers the only National Architecture Accrediting Board (NAAB)accredited professional Doctor of Architecture degree in the United States; Global Track Dual Degree; Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB)accredited Master of Landscape Architecture; Master of Architecture; Bachelor of Environmental Design; and a Graduate Certificate in Historic Preservation.
The Dean is the academic and administrative leader of the School and serves as the Schools principal advocate judiciously balancing the best interests of the School with those of the UH Manoa Campus University of Hawaii System and the community. As a member of the Provosts senior leadership team the Dean ensures that the mission and goals of the School are aligned with and supportive of UH Manoas and the Systems visions and strategic missions.
The Dean is expected to leverage and build upon a unique island context within the Hawaii Asia and Pacific region to promote intellectual inquiry creative problem solving multidisciplinary collaboration and design excellence with both local and global impact. The educational opportunities offered by the School of the Architecture and the work produced are tied to place people culture community and environment with particular attention to the host culture in Hawaii and the AsiaPacific region.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops a collaborative vision and shared goals within the School of Architecture to unify faculty staff students and stakeholders around a common purpose and direction for the future of the school clearly positioning the School in relation to the rest of the campus and to the State of Hawaii.
Provides leadership and support for initiatives that foster innovative educational strategies enhances effective research infrastructures and facilitates outreach to the community.
Provides executive oversight of administrative matters including financial and human resources management budget planning and procurement and contracts management facilities management and overall compliance efforts.
Represents the School locally nationally and internationally continuously building its reputation providing thoughtful leadership and bringing broader benefits and relationships to the School.
Works towards securing internal and external funding to support the Schools initiatives including research projects student scholarships program development and facilities enhancement. Ensures effective stewardship of higher administrative and donor relationships including acknowledging contributions providing regular updates on the impact of donations and fostering longterm engagement and support for the Schools mission and goals.
Ensures alignment between the curriculum and industry standards accreditation requirements and evolving trends in architecture landscape architecture and design education.
Prioritizes student and faculty success including academic excellence access to resources and preparation for professional careers.
Leads efforts to hire and retain outstanding and diverse faculty members including advocating for positions ensuring fair and equitable recruitment and hiring practices and promoting mentoring across the School and development opportunities to support and retain faculty and staff.
Fosters a vibrant supportive and collaborative environment for faculty staff and students recognizing and celebrating achievements milestones and successes that contribute to the advancement of shared goals and the overall mission of the School of Architecture.
Fosters relationships with the local community professional organizations government and industry partners to enhance opportunities for students faculty and the School as a whole.
Works closely with both management and union representatives to ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) and upholds fair labor practices.
Prepares testimonies and documents relating to Architecture programs in response to legislative state and/or University inquiries.
Participates in shared governance creates ad hoc committees of the collegiate faculty; hears faculty grievances; promotes academic freedom and responsibility; ensures that the college provides a diverse opportunity and perspectiverich environment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
An earned doctorate or other terminal degree and a tenured appointment at the rank of professor.
Demonstrated expertise in academic research and/or professional design practice supported by evidence of critical recognition through peerreviewed publications exhibitions design competitions and/or built work.
Evidence of strong and dynamic academic administrative leadership excellent listening and communication skills empathy adaptability and motivation to foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
Demonstrated ability to secure internal and external funding to support initiatives encompassing program development research projects student scholarships and facilities enhancements.
Experience with NAAB and/or LAAB accreditation procedures standards and criteria.
Deep understanding of architectural principles design theories and methodologies as well as their intersection with allied fields including landscape architecture urban planning and environmental sustainability.
Ability to integrate interdisciplinary perspectives into architectural education leveraging knowledge of design studio pedagogy innovative teaching methods technologies and curriculum relevant to architecture.
Familiarity with integrating realworld experiences and industry practices into curriculum including collaborations with architectural firms community organizations and other stakeholders.
Demonstrated practice of building and fostering meaningful relationships between scholars community members and/or professional organizations.
Demonstrated proficiency in building and fostering productive relationships within internal administrative hierarchies.
A strong commitment and demonstrated success in ethical leadership and integrity with a track record of upholding the highest standards of conduct.
Proven experience in promoting equity and fostering inclusivity within a work environment.
Familiarity with current trends research and critical debates within both the discipline and the architectural community.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage organizational change initiatives.
