- Completion of a recognized University degree in communications public relations or related discipline
- A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in corporate communications and public relations
OR
- Completion of a post secondary diploma in communications public relations or related discipline
- A minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience in a corporate communications and public relations
Assets:
- Experience with photo/video editing/posting software
- Experience working in the public sector or a large complex organisation
- Membership in IABC CPRS or other related professional association
Skills required for success:
- Proven experience with ability to successfully create implement and evaluate strategic communication plans
- Demonstrated competencies in assessing the impact of communication plans based on key performance indicators to reflect on what went well and apply continuous improvement strategies
- Superior written and verbal communication and presentation skills
- Demonstrated experience with media relations coaching spokespeople and acting as a spokesperson
- Relationshipbuilding skills with ability to identify and manage issues through a client consulting approach
- Diverse community connections including broad understanding of changing community diversity antiracism work and inclusionary needs are an asset
- Experience related to project management and communicating with stakeholder groups
- Experience with advertising print graphic design traditional media social media and other webbased communications

What will you do
- Lead develop and implement communications strategies and marketing and public education campaigns for external and internal audiences
- Identify emerging issues and provide timely advice and effective strategies in response to those issues
- Liaise with other orders of government community and other interested and impacted parties when appropriate
- Lead media relations organize media events develop media strategies pitch stories to media lead the development of responses to media inquiries coach spokespeople and sometimes serve as a spokesperson
- Support Council processes (Council reports preparation for committee and council meetings)Develop and implement creative and engaging social media strategies and content to advance department goals and enhance communication efforts
- Provide communications support to public engagement initiatives
- Write news releases public service announcements media advisories brochures newsletters and other communication products
- Edit develop and update web and 311 content for programs projects and initiatives
- Work with clients designers printers vendors and marketing agencies to create effective communications and advertising products
- Perform other related duties as required
