The Landscape Technician I in Open Space Inspection Services Parks and Roads Services will be responsible for inspecting Infrastructure Operations inventory and ensuring City of Edmonton assets are maintained to the current approved service levels quality maintenance standards and City of Edmonton best practices.
As a Landscape Technician I you will also support the Landscape Technician II in ensuring Capital and stakeholder landscaping construction and restoration projects are completed and built to the current City of Edmonton Design and Construction Standards.
What will you do
- Inspect comment and report on the current state of Open Space Operations inventory requiring a vast working knowledge of current approved service levels and quality standards as outlined in Open Space Operations Task Standards Manual.
- Provide information to aid in qualitative and quantitative data to assess the current state of Open Space Operations deliverables
- Monitor internal maintenance programs and identify and interpret deficiencies in program delivery including but not limited to Turf Horticulture
- Sports Fields Integrated Pest Management Landscape Services Open Space Sanitation Services and Overland Drainage
- Make decisions based on your knowledge of a number of different City of Edmonton best practices and maintenance methods.
- Inspect overland drainage concerns on Parkland to determine if drainage could create short or longterm impacts that would require immediate or future mitigation.
- Act as a technical resource and support role for the Landscape Technician II and impact decisions. It is a highly independent role encompassing a variety of landscaping disciplines maintenance practices and projects of small to large scope.
- Review constructed landscaping from a safety vegetation health (vigor) and ease of maintenance perspective
- Mitigate long term maintenance liabilities
- Perform site visits related to internal or external inquiries notifications complaints etc.
- Provide technical support advice information and detailed reports
- Design drawing review provide comments on landscape design circulations from internal and external sources
- Other duties as required
- Completion of a twoyear technical diploma or higher level education in Landscape Technology Horticulture Forestry or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years related work experience in PARS Turf Horticulture Sports Fields Integrated Pest Management Landscape Services Operations landscape construction
Assets:
- Previous experience with landscape inspections
- Construction Management Certificate
Skills required for success:
- Working knowledge of landscape design landscape construction construction survey construction grading and slopes
- Knowledge of landscape and construction techniques and terminology
- Knowledge of Edmonton Landscape Design and Construction Standards Volume 5 Landscaping and Landscaping Inspector Guideline Manual
- Excellent communication skills verbally and in business/technical writing
- Attention to detail and the ability to verify and assess documentation
- Demonstrated proficiency with Google Applications (Docs Sheets Gmail Calendar)
- Proven customer service skills and excellent communication skills
- Physical ability and manual dexterity to perform the work of this class

Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position
Work Environment:
- Monday through Friday
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
