Job Description

DEFINITION

Please note: This is a part time assignment.

What Youll Do:
This position is responsible for a variety of duties including;
  • Responsibility for providing reassessments on individuals on conservatorship.
  • May also have a caseload involving children and/or adults
  • Performing psychotherapy
  • Performing psychological testing and assessment of clients
  • Consulting on complex behavioral health clients.
Where Youll Do It:
This position is located at 720 Wood St. in Eureka CA 95501.

A typical work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 20 hours/week.

Under general supervision has responsibility for a psychiatric caseload involving children and/or adults; performs psychotherapy; performs psychological testing and assessment of clients; consults or personally provides support to complex or difficult mental health clients; may provide direction and work review for assigned Mental Health Clinicians interns and other support staff; performs related work as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Licensed Clinical Psychologist I: This is the entry level in this specialist class. Incumbents are assigned mental health casework which will broaden and deepen their professional experience in diagnosis group and individual therapy and psychological testing and assessment. This class is alternately staffed with Licensed Clinical Psychologist II and incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meets the qualifications of the higher level class. (Note: Incumbents may only remain in this class up to the equivalent of two fulltime years following intern registration.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Administers and interprets various psychological assessment instruments for mental health clients.
  • Performs psychotherapy or provides professional consultation for the more complex or difficult client assessments and/or mental health programs or projects.
  • Performs client intake and psychological evaluation of clients new to the service; obtains client histories and determines mental status and performs diagnoses.
  • Provides ongoing psychotherapy and necessary referrals for clients as needs dictate; provides psychotherapy to chronically mentally ill adults and children brief therapy for clients experiencing situationaltype problems and ongoing therapy for clients in out or inpatient settings.

QUALIFICATIONS

Skill in:

  • Directing and reviewing the work of others.
  • Training staff in work procedures.
  • Assessing client mental status and making accurate evaluations and effective treatment referrals.
  • Analyzing crisis situations in a prompt and concise manner to facilitate appropriate treatment and referrals.
  • Conducting mental health education and training programs.
  • Evaluating clients for medication referral.
  • Presenting client history and behavioral impressions to psychiatric allied mental health staff for further review.
  • Preparing detailed case summaries and documentation and maintaining accurate client records in compliance with local state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Protecting clients rights and providing advocacy for the mentally ill.
  • Working effectively with appropriate County community hospital school and other involved agencies.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other therapists County staff schools referral agencies physicians and the public.
  • Utilizing the most current version of the Diagnostic and statistical Manual for performing diagnoses on all five axies.
Other Requirements:
  • Must possess a valid California drivers license.
  • Licensed Clinical Psychologist I: Must possess a valid intern registration number from the State Board of Medical Quality Assurance and be able to obtain an appropriate license to practice as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the State of California within two years following granting of a Ph.D. in psychology.

CalPERS RETIREMENT PROGRAM
Employees fall into one of the following tiers based on the date you first start working for the county or any other employer that uses CalPERS for retirement.
  • Tier I Prior to 7/5/2012: 2.7 @ 55
  • Tier II Post 7/6/2012: 2 @ 55
  • Tier III Post 1/1/2013: 2 @ 62

If this is your first job with a CalPERS employer you will be in Tier III.
  • 2 means that for every year you work for the county you will receive 2 of your maximum annual pay rate for every year that you work for us (or other CalPERS employers) if you work the required minimum number of years (thats called vesting) and retire after the age following the @.
  • For example if you work 20 years and retire at 62 years of age you will receive 20 x 2 or 40 of the average of your three highest years of annual pay in retirement payments.

LICENSES

PROBATIONARY PERIOD
Persons appointed to regular county positions serve a probationary period. This is normally six 6 months but could be up to one 1 year. All designated safety employees serve a oneyear probationary period.

EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITY
It is the countys intention to hire only those workers who are authorized to work in the United States pursuant to the Immigration Act of 1990. If you are offered employment you will be required to verify your eligibility to work in the United States. For law enforcement positions you will be required to verify your U.S. citizenship or legalized status.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS
All County of Humboldt employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section. Employment with the county requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Workerrelated training as assigned and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
