The Stanford Department of Pediatrics is committed to advancing the health of infants children and adolescents through innovative medical care research education training and advocacy. With over 400 pediatricians and pediatric subspecialties our department is one of the largest in the Stanford University School of Medicine. Ranked among the top in the nation by US News and World Report we attract medical students interns postdoctoral scholars residents fellows and faculty from around the world. We offer broadbased training in general pediatrics critical care and pediatric subspecialties within a variety of ambulatory inpatient and community settings. Integrated with our educational activities these programs provide handson learning to equip our graduates with the skills theyll need as future advocates of childrens health.

The Division of Cardiology in the Department of Pediatrics at Lucile Packard Childrens Hospital/Stanford University School of Medicine is recruiting a CVICU Hospitalist in the Clinician Educator line as a Clinical Instructor or Clinical Assistant Professor. The major criterion for appointment as Clinician Educators is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care teaching administrative and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.
Academic rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
Our CVICU has offered hospitalist positions for over a decade and has recruited both recently graduated pediatrics residents looking for gap years and fellowshiptrained physicians looking for more experience or a more flexible primarily clinical career in a CVICU. The hospitalist program includes on the job training in both cardiac physiology and critical care skills such as ventilator management. A formal orientation process and evaluation system provide structure to this educational process and many recent pediatrics graduates use our hospitalist year as a jumping off point to fellowship training in either pediatric cardiology or pediatric critical care. Hospitalists are hired as clinical instructors at the Stanford School of Medicine. Salary is based on experience and level of training and is competitive for the area.
Your responsibilities will include:
Clinical Duties
Your clinical duties which will comprise approximately 95 percent of your effort will be 1840hours a year which is equivalent to 46 weeks of work within a 52week year. Your clinical commitment will encompass both day and night shifts including weekends with an expectation of up to four night shifts and four weekend shifts per month. Of note each hour completed on a night shift will be equivalent to 1.25 hours on a day shift.
Your specific weekbyweek clinical work schedule will be developed in collaboration with the Medical Director of the CVICU. Additionally you are asked to be available up to an additional 4 extra hours/week for clinical related meetings. The location or locations of your practice will be determined by your department chair and/or division chief and may be subject to change. Your practice will be primarily at Lucile Packard Childrens Hospital Stanford (LPCHS).
Teaching Duties
Your teaching duties which will comprise approximately 5 percent of your effort and may occur in conjunction with your clinical activity will be focused in the CVICU on clinical topics in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology with participation in teaching Pediatric Cardiology fellows Pediatric residents medical students and APPs both in the clinical setting as well as in lecture format. The Medical Director or other CVICU members will assist you with your teaching.

The expected base pay range for this position is:
Clinical Instructor: $213K $240K
Clinical Assistant Professor: $251K $278K
This pay range reflects base pay which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It does not include all components of the School of Medicines faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
