Senior Database Engineer RDS and Aurora MySQL

The Database Engineering team is actively engaged in the ongoing database engineering process partnering with development groups and providing deep subject matter expertise to feature design and as an advocate for bringing forward and resolving customer issues. In this role you act as the Voice of the Customer helping software engineers understand how customers use databases to help build the next generation of Aurora & RDS services this NOT a DBA role.

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations from foundational services such as Amazons Simple Storage Service (S3 and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2 to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWSs services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization youll support the development and management of Compute Database Storage Internet of Things (Iot) Platform and Productivity Apps services in AWS including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services

Deep knowledge and experience designing and running MySQL relational databases including knowledge of relational database internals (locking consistency serialization recovery paths)
Systems engineering experience including Linux performance memory management I/O tuning configuration security networking clusters and troubleshooting.
Experience working directly with customers resolving database systems and infrastructurerelated issues and also providing systems architecture leadership
Experience engineering administering and managing multiple relational database flavors (e.g. Oracle MySQL SQLServer PostgreSQL)

Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (EC2 EBS S3 etc.
Experience building and maintaining complex missioncritical production database systems
Experience analyzing issues holistically from the application tier through the database down to the infrastructure
Working knowledge of at least one scripting language (shell Python Perl)
Coding skills in the procedural language for at least one database engine a must (PL/SQL TSQL etc.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $131400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $227000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on jobrelated knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
