The Department of Biomedical Informatics DBMI at the University of Utah is recruiting to build on a nationleading clinical informatics program that is impacting lives on a daily basis to address realworld problems. We seek an Assistant Professor in the Career Line (Research Track) to join our (I) DBMI Digital Health Initiative and (II) ReImagine EHR initiative which is a nationleading program to improve patient health and the user experience through innovative and standardsbased digital health interventions. The Department of Biomedical Informatics has recently received substantial funding to expand its faculty and grow its research and education portfolio. In addition to this position the Department has recruited 13 new faculty members since 2022. As described in JAMIA Open its launch in 2016 the ReImagine EHR initiative has developed more than 10 EHR integrated digital innovations that have been implemented to address a variety of pressing clinical issues including COVID 19 health equity preventive care cancer prevention shared decision making chronic disease management and acute clinical care. The program has extensive ties to a variety of community partners including federally qualified health centers across the Mountain West. Led by Professor Ken Kawamoto MD PhD MHS FACMI ReImagine EHR has brought in over $50 million in external grant funding and has led to multiple corporate partnerships. The candidate will work directly with Dr. Kawamoto and join a thriving multidisciplinary teamscience environment where individuals bring together their various talents and passions to improve health and health care. Collaborators include investigators and staff from the Center for Health Outcomes and Population Equity HOPE at the Huntsman Cancer Institute the Department of Population Health Science and various clinical departments. As a valued member of the team the faculty member will contribute to and colead clinical informatics and digital health intervention research particularly in the areas of health equity patientcentered digital health clinical application of artificial intelligence and precision medicine. The faculty member will contribute to the writing of manuscripts and grants colead projects and present research at local regional and national conferences. Additional responsibilities will include advising and supervising students fellows and/or staff; serving on PhD student committees; and contributing to course instruction. The faculty member will also attend faculty meetings and potentially serve in additional capacities in service to the department or the institution. The faculty member will be mentored and provided opportunities to advance their careers in alignment with their professional and personal goals. A M.D. or Ph.D. in biomedical informatics or related field is required. The successful candidate will have expertise and an interest in conducting research in areas such as health equity; patient engagement; clinical informatics; clinical decision support; artificial intelligence; healthcare quality improvement; sociotechnical methods; standards and interoperability; electronic health record systems; and precision medicine. The successful candidate will have firstauthored or coauthored publications in peerreviewed journals or conference proceedings demonstrating research interest and commitment in the areas above. Teaching experience in the field of biomedical informatics is a plus. The University of Utah Department of Biomedical Informatics is one of the oldest informatics departments in the country having graduated more PhDs than any other program in the world. The Department has a long history of collaboration that crosses the University of Utah Health Sciences Center the Veterans Health Administration Intermountain Healthcare and the Utah Department of Health.
