NDDOT Hiring Salary:

Hydraulic Engineer III: $7243 / month

Hydraulic Engineer II: $5999 / month

Hydraulic Engineer I: $5403 / month*

Applicants who anticipate receiving their degree by April/May of 2025 are eligible to apply; fulltime start date no later than June 16 2025 and willing to work part time until graduation.

Summary of Work
Are you looking for a dynamic role that combines technical expertise with realworld impact The Bridge Divisions Preliminary Engineering & Hydraulics Section is seeking a Transportation Engineer to contribute to the future of North Dakotas infrastructure. In this role youll gain valuable experience in both roadway and structure hydraulics while also working on preliminary engineering and environmental documents for bridge projects. Youll have the opportunity to collaborate with multiple divisions and districts across the DOT broadening your expertise and professional network. This position offers a diverse mix of office and field work allowing you to experience projects firsthandwhether conducting field reviews assisting with design or visiting sites during construction. Primary Duties Include:

Rural and Urban Drainage Systems

Determine drainage areas and runoff quantities
Calculate culvert sizes and evaluate alternative designs
Design storm sewer systems including lift stations and pumping equipment
Develop reports and plans to meet milestone tasks and bid deadlines
Structure Hydraulics

Perform 1D and 2D models for box culvert and bridge stream crossings
Recommend structure sizes and alternatives
Calculate scour depths and design countermeasures
Prepare hydraulics reports documenting methodologies and results
Develop and review plan sheets for quality accuracy and completeness
Preliminary engineering and environmental documents

Research project corridor deficiencies and develop solutions
Conduct field reviews and lead public input meetings
Develop preliminary design options with cost estimates
Prepare environmental documents
Project management and consultant oversight

Facilitate project meetings to maintain schedules and progress
Oversee consultant contracts documents and invoices
Review consultantprepared reports designs and plans for accuracy and completeness

Minimum Qualifications
Engineer III:

Bachelors degree in civil engineering construction or construction management from an ABET accredited school and
Four years of professionallevel engineering work experience and
Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors and
Requires a class D drivers license for travel to visit bridges to scope projects.
Engineer II:

Bachelors degree in civil engineering construction or construction management from an ABET accredited school and
Two years of professionallevel engineering work experience and
Must have passed or have the ability to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors within six months of employment.
Engineer I:

Bachelors degree in civil engineering construction or construction management from an ABET accredited school (must be met by June 15 2025 and
Requires a class D drivers license for travel to visit bridges to scope projects.
Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and reference check.
