WHO WERE SEEKING:
Grossmont College seeks academic professionals who are dedicated to equitable and superior student success outcomes for all students. We are looking for candidates who will demonstrate a history and willingness to continue to learn about varied relevant teaching and learning practices assessment strategies and educationally sound supports that will sustain a diverse and changing student body and college service area.
We seek colleagues who create positive engaging learning and development environments in class and throughout the college that challenge and support students to aspire to and achieve their full potential.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Regular/contract instructors participate in the planning implementation and evaluation of educational programs courses and other experiences that will directly result in the educational growth of the students and support advancement of the visions missions and values of the college and District. Instructors will be expected to perform other duties consistent with their faculty job description as stated in the faculty contract.
This position may include a combination of day and evening assignments online assignments large lectures and small seminars and is being offered by a college strongly committed to the open door concept serving a diverse student population.
Grossmont College is an HispanicServing Institution (HSI) and we are looking for individuals who have experience working with programs integral to our departments equity efforts ongoing support and involvement in programs such as: Puente program Umoja First Year Experience other interdisciplinarylinked courses and continued development of Area F (Ethnic Studies General Education requirement) history courses as needed by the department and college. In addition to the classroom responsibilities evaluation of students curriculum student advising and professional development and additional responsibilities as outlined in the fulltime instructor job description. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: APPLICANTS MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
Masters in history; OR Bachelors in history AND Masters in political science humanities geography area studies womens studies area studies womens studies social science or ethnic studies; OR The equivalent. NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS Applicants must demonstrate:
Academic preparation for or successful experience in teaching Early and Modern World History and other general preps of multiple subdisciplines as needed at the college level for example Ancient Civilizations; African History; Middle Eastern History; Asian History; Latin American; and Comparative Americas; and/or another subspecialty of World History.
Experience in the use of a variety of teaching strategies and delivery methods including the use of technology.
The skill experience and equitymindset to be able to instruct and motivate students of diverse age ancestry race disability ethnicity perspective national origin religion gender gender identity sexual orientation education and socioeconomic status.
Ability to work effectively and professionally with colleagues.
Evidence of a strong commitment to remain current in history and its instructional program.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS Applicants will also be evaluated for qualifications in the following:
Ability and willingness to become involved in departmental and campus affairs.
Ability and willingness to develop computer assisted curriculum and to use Canvas in an instructional setting. Canvas certification will be required before the start of the first semester following hire. If the selected candidate does not possess Canvas certification the college will provide training.
Willingness to be involved with community related projects in the public interest.
