Primary Objectives
The Assistant Fire Chief is a professional staff member responsible for providing assistance to the Fire Chief in the administration and supervision of the Poarch Creek Fire Department. This job description is not an allinclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of this position. PCI Employees are expected to perform all duties and responsibilities necessary to meet the goals and objectives of applicable programs and departmental objectives as assigned.
Professional Staff of the Poarch Creek Indians will consistently demonstrate the abilities to influence innovate flex their style and problem solve along with a strong commitment to embodying the core values of the Poarch Creek Indians which include Perseverance Opportunity Accountability Respect Culture and Honesty.

Essential Functions
  • Coordinates with the Fire Chief the DirectorTribal Emergency Services and the rest of the executive management team to support the goals and objectives as set forth by the DirectorTribal Emergency Services and the Division DirectorPublic Safety.
  • Acts as Fire Chief in his/her absence when designated by the TESD or PSDD.
  • Responds and assumes command of strategic and tactical operations at emergency scenes when necessary.
  • Develops and reviews departmental policies and procedures to improve effectiveness and efficiency of operations and services levels.
  • Makes recommendations for department policies and procedures.
  • Researches and prepares special reports and studies.
  • Assists in the investigations of accidents involving departmental personnel and/or equipment.
  • Assists in the assurance that all Tribal building maintenance/repairs are completed.
  • Assists in the assurance that all major equipment is maintained in operating condition prepares reports documenting status of major equipment and coordinates with Public Works.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate person.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelors Degree in Fire Science Occupational Safety or related field preferred.
  • Current EMTBasic license issued through the State of Alabama and a current NREMT required.
  • Must possess current State of Alabama certificates (Firefighter I/II) and preference to candidate that has passed the CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test).
  • Ten 10 years of fulltime employment experience as a firefighter fire/rescue or related field and/or a combination of education and related fulltime employment experience as a firefighter fire/rescue or related field.
  • Minimum of ten 10 years of employment experience in supervision or leadership role within a Fire Department of equivalent size or larger than Poarch Creek Fire preferred.
  • Five 5 years fire/rescue supervisory experience required.
  • Two 2 years experience in grant/contract administration preferred.
  • One 1 year experience working with budgets preferred.
  • Fire Instructor II certification from the Alabama Fire College preferred.
  • Must be able to pass annual physical and be fit for duty.
  • Must live within thirtyfive 35 miles of the Poarch Creek Indian Reservation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Tribal Gaming License as required by the Tribal Gaming Commission.
  • Must possess Mandatory Reporter Certification or obtain within the first week of employment.
  • Ability to work odd and irregular hours as needed.
  • Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check.
  • Must possess a valid state drivers license and insurable driving record according to Tribal insurance guidelines.
  • Ability to travel and participate in required training leadership development and other events.
  • Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of this position adequately and successfully.

Compensation and Benefits
  • The starting pay will depend on factors such as experience level and skillset.
