Job Description

Position: Summer Literacy Program Teacher Substitute

Title 1 Summer Success Program

Dates: Monday Thursday July 7 2025 Julydays a week for a month)

Location: Hosmer School

Hours:8:0012:00 pm with 30 min of prep a day plus one 1hour orientation 1 day of set up/clean up and a weekly 30minute faculty meeting.

Rate of Pay: $35.00 per hour

Number of Positions:5

The responsibilities may include:

This position would be on call in the morning as well as for planned absences. Pay would be determined by how many days worked.

Teach grouping of students in grades K5. (Grouping will be 1520 students)

  • Use Responsive classroom management morning meeting and closing circle
  • Conduct whole group and small group literacy lessons
  • Encourage a love of reading and talking about books
  • Work with students on writing in response to reading
  • Implement the Literacy Camp curriculum and incorporate creative activities as needed

Required knowledge skills & abilities

  • Experience working with elementary or middle school students.
  • Experience collaborating with colleagues
  • Familiarity with best practices in literacy instruction and comfortable modeling instruction when needed
  • Holds the belief that all children can learn and learn to read and write effectively
  • Familiarity with Responsive Classroom practices language and beliefs
  • An ability to engage students in using all 4 domains: listening reading speaking and writing
  • Having students engage in academic conversations during every class
  • Attend preprogram training and weekly faculty meetings.

Education/Experience:

  • A current Massachusetts Teaching License/Certification
  • Three or more successful years of experience teaching students in literacy preferred
