What We Offer
The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The full salary range for this position is $23.33 $35.00. The budgeted starting salary range for this position is $23.33 $30.00. We also offer generous benefits for fulltime employees which include but are not limited to:

Location
This position is required to work in the office. Core work hours for this position is 7:30 a.m. 4:00 p.m. Monday Friday with occasional nights weekends and holidays as needed. The Office of the Medical Examiner is a 24/7/365 operation. The Office of the Medical Examiner is located at 500 Quivas St. Denver CO 80204.
What Youll Do
Within the Denver Department of Public Health & Environment (DDPHE) the Office of the Medical Examiner (OME) investigates all violent suspicious and unexpected natural deaths that occur in the City and County of Denver. The goal of forensic investigation and autopsy is to develop logical scientific and unbiased information necessary to determine the cause and manner of death for the proper and accurate completion of the death certificate and autopsy report. The agency also offers death expert testimony/consultation death scene response and investigation and deceased identification and death notification. The Office of the Medical Examiner has an opening for a Decedent Affairs Coordinator. This position provides integral support for the daily operations of the OME. It is both an external and internal facing position which requires expertise in customer service problem solving multitasking and collaboration. A healthy sense of humor is encouraged.
Specifically in this position you will:
- Guide and assist grieving families mortuaries coinvestigative agencies or general public on the phone or in person through Office of the Medical Examiner processes or direct to the proper resource. Ensure timely followup with internal and external customers. Communicates familys needs promptly and accurately to the appropriate staff member.
- Work with mortuaries next of kin (interpreted by Colorado State Statue) external agencies and internal staff on obtaining or preparing required documentation for release of decedents and personal effects.
- Completion of final and pending death certificates through CDPHE Vital Records Electronic Death Registration system within 5 days of death. Work with forensic pathologist death investigators and mortuaries to ensure death certificate is accurate and complete.
- Release of decedents and personal effects from morgue area.
- Maintain contact with various vendors Denver Health and Hospitals or City and County of Denver divisions regarding issues maintenance or repairs to ensure they are completed in a timely manner.
- Create clear and concise reports to ensure case management system reports shared files safety and policy manuals remains current.
- Order supplies track invoices maintain logs while ensuring compliance with CCD Denver Department of Public Health and Environment and OME policy.
- Interpret and be able to explain regulation and standards to ensure compliance with CJIS HIPAA State Statues DDPHE & OME policy regarding document request or information wanted by coinvestigative agencies media hospital risk management attorneys next of kin or any other requester of information.
- Work with nextofkin and follow rules and regulations of Denver Human Services Burial Assistance and Public Administrators office regarding body disposition.
- Conduct quality control on all reports that leave OMEs control.
- Along with all DDPHE staff actively participate in emergency preparedness and response team activities to support DDPHEs responsibilities outlined in the Citys Emergency Operations Plan. This may require being oncall from time to time respond to emergencies. Training will be provided.
- Other duties as assigned.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience skills and characteristics:
- Advanced level experience in all Microsoft Office products including Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook;
- previous experience with case management systems to maintain the accuracy of our medicolegal death investigations. Experience in dealing with highly confidential documents and conversations.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to demonstrates a caring attitude when problems arise while resolving issues calmly and efficiently.
- Maintains professional and cooperative relationships with all customers and staff.
- Ability to independently exercise sound judgment tact and diplomacy; strong problemsolving skills; organization and prioritization of tasks that are assigned.
- Attention to detail positive attitude and excellent communication skills; ability to work both independently and collaboratively with stakeholders in a fastpaced and highvolume environment.
- Must be able to complete and understand training required by policy accreditation and City and County of Denver (CCD).
- Must be able to attend required office meetings and take part in various department or division committees.
- Spanish language communication skills both written and spoken.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Education Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED HiSET or TASC Certificate.
- Experience Requirement: Two 2 years of experience performing technical or administrative work assisting in an environmental public health specific to the assignment.
- Education and Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
- License/Certification Requirement: None.
Note: Whereas a drivers license is not required this person may need to attend inperson community events and partner consultation meetings around Denver so the individual must arrange for transportation to attend such meetings should they arise.
