Description

About the Role:We are seeking a talented and experienced chemical metallurgical or mining engineer to join our Australian Equities Research team in Sydney. The successful candidate will bring their ontheground experience as a metallurgist or mining engineer to provide valuable insights and recommendations for targeted institutional investors. You will apply your knowledge to assess publicly available information and evaluate the merits of various mining projects.

Initially you will focus on industry research and collaborate with our existing Metals & Mining team to develop your skills in conducting indepth financial analysis complex modelling valuation and report writing. The ultimate goal is to develop differentiated investment theses for the ASXlisted Metals and Mining sector and produce valueadded research for institutional investors. This role requires a basic commercial awareness and a high level of subject matter expertise in the sector. Strong communication skills and diplomacy are essential to guide influence and convince clients regarding the analysts recommendations.

Your Team:You will be part of the Australian Equities Research team based in Sydney. Our team provides investment insights to both domestic and international institutional investors on the ASXlisted Metals & Mining sector. Coverage includes Diversified Mining (BHP RIO etc. Gold & Base Metals Uranium Coal Lithium & Rare Earths and Commodities sectors. As a research analyst in the Resources Team at Jefferies you will play a crucial role in analysing industry dynamics and providing investment recommendations to a wide range of institutional clients while leveraging Jefferies marketleading platform.

Your Expertise:

  • Bachelors/University degree in Chemical Metallurgical or Mining Engineering.
  • Ideally 3 years of experience in a mining company with a desire to transition into a finance career.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain basic financial valuation models.
  • A keen interest in mineral commodity supply demand and longterm industry trends.
  • An interest in equity markets.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to articulate fundamental views confidently.
  • Inquisitive organized and able to work independently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Senior Analysts in covering selected companies across the Metals & Mining industry.
  • Maintain and update existing company models; create new models; maintain relative value sheets.
  • Assist with the publication of earnings previews/recaps initiation reports deep dive notes and other group products.
  • Handle client inquiries and requests (internal and external).
  • Coordinate investor meetings (management meetings & field trips) and conference calls with consultants.
  • Appropriately assess risk when making business decisions demonstrating consideration for the firms reputation clients and assets by driving compliance with applicable laws rules and regulations. Adhere to policy apply sound ethical judgment regarding personal behaviour conduct and business practices and escalate manage and report control issues with transparency.
