Here is what you will be doing:
- Classification of inbound train
- Unloading of materials consisting of a variety of bulk liquid and dry products
- Follow operating procedures and policies
- Operate or learn to operate rail car loading systems and equipment
- perform work safely and productively
- Enforces safety policies and procedures with other employees and visitors
- Perform general maintenance on equipment
- Assist with other duties within the facility (general maintenance landscape upkeep and painting)
- Interact with customers railroad crews other Team Members and visitors
Requirements of a successful Rail Switchman:
- Two years of transloading preferred
- Read write and understand English
- Basic math skills
- Computer skills (light data entry)
- Capable of learning how to operate and maintain rail car/trans loading equipment (e.g. Hoses portable conveyors transfer pumps portable stair systems small to mediumsized equipment etc.
Here are some of the physical requirements for this role:
- Climb up and down rail cars/ladders safely
- Work outside in ALL weather conditions (snow rain subfreezing temps)
- Willing to work with hazardous and dry bulk materials
- Lifts up to 50 pounds
