Compensation:In accordance with California law the expected salary range for this position is posted with this position. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

About theProgram:

  • Transitional Housing Program: This program provides housing and supportive services to nonminor dependent pregnant and/or parenting young women ages 1821 who are still in the foster care system as well as pregnant and/or parenting young women ages 1824 who were or have transitioned out of the foster care or juvenile justice system.

Role Summary:The Independent Life Skills Specialist provides life skills training to support program participants housed in St. Annes Supportive Housing Programs. Working collaboratively with the Supportive Housing Family Advocates Case Managers the Independent Life Skills Specialist supports program participants to gain goals related to education vocational and occupational. The Independent Life Skills Specialist also supports by aiding program participants navigating complexities such as intimate partner violence and parenting. The ILSS works towards behavioral changes that improve daily functioning for our program participants and supporting linkage to community resources and coordination of workforce development needs. The Independent Life Skills Specialist plans and coordinates educational programming to support high school diplomas trade school and twofouryear college programs. Develops curricula prepares relevant presentations and materials and organizes and delivers and/or facilitates classes workshops seminars and other training services. Provides student advisement and associated services as appropriate.

  • Schedules:
    • Monday Friday 10:00am to 7:00pm with every other Friday off 10:00am to 6:00pm 9/80 schedule)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans and designs curricula for educational programs; researches and defines educational goals objectives and methodologies to meet program goals.
  • Develop materials to support new life skill programs for clients as identified by the client and team including areas of budgeting housekeeping parenting conflict management and employment.
  • Writes edits and coordinates development of educational materials newsletters and/or brochures as appropriate to the program.
  • Works collaboratively with the Supportive Housing Program team to monitor progress on individual goals and encourages independent living skills while assisting and supporting as appropriate.
  • Develop and facilitate life skills and education classes for residents weekly and as needed.
  • Identify creative ways to maximize engagement of TAY (Transitional Aged Youth) participation in weekly groups.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in a Behavioral Science or related degree and a minimum of two years of fulltime experience working with transitionaged youth or a similar population. Experience in group social or recreational work is preferred.
  • Requires possession of reliable automobile and a valid California Drivers License as well as a driving record acceptable to the agencys insurance carrier.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish preferred.
