Job summary
Function:
A Machinist depending on the skill level will set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments; including precision instrument makers who fabricate modify or repair stainless steel castings. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines applying knowledge or mechanics shop mathematics metal properties layout and machining procedures.

Function:

General Responsibilities:
- Participate in required meetings.
- Promote unity and positive morale.
- Assure cleanliness of working areas.
- Complete quality documentation using readable penmanship.
- Able to lift 30 pounds minimum on a regular basis.
- Understand and obey all safety requirements.
- Ability to clock in and out of timekeeping system correctly.
- Ability to interact with all levels of staff effectively.
- Commitment to keep work area clean and free of debris.
- Working knowledge of the companys Employee Handbook.
- Able to understand and communicate in English.
- Proficient in written oral and interpersonal communication.
- Ability to work in teams and independently.
- Able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Job Specific Responsibilities:
Level 1 (L1
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and calipers with accuracy.
- Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes milling machines shapers or grinders.
- Measure examine and test completed units in order to ensure conformance to specifications using precision instruments such as micrometers.
- Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
- Working knowledge of the companys traveler (router bill of materials etc..
Level 2 (L2 (Items 15 above and the following)
- Align and secure holding fixtures cutting tools attachments accessories and materials onto machines.
- Select the appropriate tools machines and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
- Set up jobs according to work instructions.
Level 3 (L3 (Items 18 above and the following)
- Program machines to run specific jobs.
Qualifications
- High School Degree or GED equivalent.
- Experience in related industry preferred.
Training Requirements
- All training courses as identified by the Training Matrix must be complete 90 days after hire.
- Any other training identified on the Individual Development Plan.
- Onthejob training to be provided.
Requirements
Skills:
- Mastery of basic math (addition subtraction multiplication division and fractions).
- Basic knowledge of computer applications.
- Working knowledge of s and rework requirements when discovered.
- Working knowledge of material (hot rolled aluminum etc. properties.
- Ability to use calipers micrometers paint thickness gauges and tape measure.
