Job Description

Position Summary
The Assistant Vice Provost for Faculty Relations AVP FR) is a fulltime 12month unclassified exempt position reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs (the Provost). The AVP FR is a member of the Provosts leadership team. The AVP FR will regularly collaborate with among others Office of the Provost personnel Deans Department Chairs the Office of Human Resources the General Counsel and the President. The Office of the Provost is the central academic administrative office with responsibility for the institutional academic mission programming and policy implementation support programs for academic personnel and students academic fiscal management collective bargaining with the faculty unionthe American Association of University Professors AAUP or the union) and fostering collegial relations with all faculty (both those within and outside of the bargaining unit). With a focus on working relationships efficiency of related processes and compliance the AVP FR will serve as: the primary liaison between the Office of the Provost and the union; Oregon Techs lead negotiator in future contract bargaining and grievance officer regarding the union working closely with legal counsel as needed; the key contact within the Office of the Provost for Deans and Department chairs for issues related to the collective bargaining agreement and faculty employment concerns; and a key contact within the Office of the Provost for outofunit faculty (including among a few others adjunct faculty and faculty working at less than a .5 FTE . The AVP FR will be responsible for faculty employment contracts and providing required information to the union at the times specified in the agreement. Additional duties may be assigned relating to faculty relations and operations; for example utilization analyses (including assessment of use and need for overload and out of load assignments) conflicts of interest and commitment outside activities tracking academic policy development faculty recruitment processes and retention efforts. The AVP FR will be responsible for maintaining effective and collegial labormanagement relationships while pursuing and protecting Oregon Techs strategic goals and objectives through the negotiation process. The AVP FR will be responsible for union contract administration progressive discipline and grievances in a manner that supports positive and professional relationships with faculty union representatives supervisors managers and administrators. The AVP FR will apply judgment creativity and independence in managing difficult negotiations conceiving solutions to negotiation problems faculty grievances and complaints. The AVP FR will have a high level of independence and accountability in the performance of assigned responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications
Possess a PhD JD or other terminal degree; Five 5 years experience in public or private collective bargaining in higher education Training or experience in Alternate Dispute Resolution ADR (in addition to contract negotiations) such as conflict resolution mediation crucial conversations etc. Training experience or a strong interest in faculty recruitment retention affirmative action diversity/equity/inclusion DEI
