About our Client
BioSourcing is a leading biotechnologyorganization focused on developing and producing highquality therapeuticproteins in goat milk. Our clients mission is to make biologics moreaffordable and accessible while exploring innovative delivery methods such asoral and topical applications. BioSourcing secures funding from the EuropeanInnovation Council (EIC) Accelerator to develop innovative biomanufacturingsolutions in Europe. As they expand we seek a skilled and motivated SeniorScientist to join their Downstream Processing (DSP) team with a special focuson developing scalable clarification methods for genetically adapted goat milk.
As a Senior Scientist in DSP your primary responsibility will be to developand optimize scalable robust clarification (and purification) processes for therapeuticproteins produced in genetically adapted goat milk. You will work closely withcrossfunctional teams to ensure these processes meet industrialscalerequirements maintaining high product yield purity and costefficiency.
Your role
1. Scalable Process Development and Optimization
- ClarificationProcess Design: Develop and optimize scalable methods to clarify goat milk andrecover target proteins efficiently. The method developed must be compatiblewith current DSP used in the industry especially to purify therapeuticproteins.
- IndustrializationReadiness: Develop processes that can be industrialized to handle severalhundred liters of goat milk per day.
2. Robust Process Design
- Ensureprocesses are robust enough to accommodate seasonal variations in goat milkquality including changes in protein concentration milk analyte content and targetprotein titer.
- Performrisk assessments and design experiments to address variability ensuringconsistent product quality across batches.
3. Analytical and Quality Support
- Participatein analytical method development and apply tools for monitoring processperformance and product quality.
- Ensureprocesses comply with regulatory and quality standards supporting downstreamintegration into production.
4. Scalability andCostEffectiveness
- Implementand conduct pilotscale studies and prepare for fullscale industrialimplementation.
- Optimizeprocess economics focusing on raw material usage labor and facility costs.
5. Innovation and TechnologyAdvancement
- Stayupdated on new technologies and industry trends in milk clarification andprotein purification.
- Proposeand implement innovative approaches to improve downstream processing efficiencyand scalability.
6. CrossFunctional Collaboration
- Workclosely with upstream processing analytical and regulatory teams to ensurealignment throughout process development.
- Providementorship and guidance to junior team members fostering a collaborativeenvironment.
7. Documentation and Communication
- Preparedetailed technical reports and presentations for internal and externalstakeholders.
Your profile
- Masters degree in Biochemistry Biotechnology Chemical Engineering or arelated field with 23 years of relevant industry experience.
- Strongexpertise in downstream processing including clarification and purification ofcomplex biologics from unconventional matrices (e.g. goat milk).
- Milkprocessing experience is a must have.
- Experiencein developing scalable clarification methods and downstream processes forbiologics such as monoclonal antibodies.
- Familiaritywith pilotscale equipment and process scaleup.
- Excellentproblemsolving critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Strongcommunication and interpersonal skills with experience in crossfunctionalteams.
Success Criteria
- Developmentof a scalable process capable of handling several hundred liters of goat milkdaily and compatible with DSP already in place in pharma industry especiallyfor monoclonal antibodies.
- Robustprocesses that can manage seasonal variability in milk quality and targetprotein concentration while maintaining high product quality and yield.
