License from the State of Missouri to practice as a Registered Nurse is required. This position is for theschool year with a flexible starting date. Schoool nurses are scheduled to work 192 calendar days each school year however this position will have the salary prorated to finish the working calendar based on date of hire.

Salary begins at $27.99/hr but steps are given based on previous experience as a certified RN (in school or health care settings).
This person will be assigned to a school site for the year by Assistant Superintendent of Operations/Finance and our District Lead Nurse.

Purpose Statement
The job of Registered Nurse is done for the purpose/s of modifying or removing healthrelated barriers to learning and promoting an optimal level of wellness for students and staff; complying with the laws relating to student health including parental and guardian consent; providing appropriate care for ill medically fragile and/or injured students; providing health information and serving as a resource to teachers staff and administrators; and identifying health problems for referral for proper treatment.
Essential Functions
- Administers mandated screenings (e.g. vision and scoliosis screenings etc. for the purpose of referring medical conditions and/or providing appropriate care for ill medically fragile and/or injured children.
- Administers first aid medication and specialized medical treatments (e.g. suctioning catheterization etc. for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill medically fragile and/or injured children.
- Assesses situations involving students safety abuse (physical sexual drug etc. and other health related issues for the purpose of identifying problems referring for proper treatment and complying with legal requirements.
- Collaborates with building principals and staff parents students health care providers and/or public agencies for the purpose of promoting and/or securing student health services; providing information and complying with legal requirements.
- Conducts site assessments (e.g. health issues student health records emergency preparedness etc. for the purpose of identifying issues and/or providing recommendations for improving facility safety and accessibility.
- Develops in collaboration with staff parents and students and monitors individual student care plans (e.g. diabetes seizures asthma etc. for the purpose of addressing students health needs; providing direction to site personnel and implementing directions provided by parents and/or physicians.
- Maintains students confidential files and records (e.g. health care plans agency referrals accident reports etc. for the purpose of providing information required by legal requirements and professional standards.
- Maintains contact with parents/guardians for the purpose of advising them of changes in student health and/or recommending further medical and/or emotional intervention to a licensed professional.
- Participates in a variety of meetings workshops and seminars and interdisciplinary teams for the purpose of gathering conveying and/or sharing information on students health needs service delivery and educational programs; and/or improving skills and knowledge.
- Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. BOE reports state reports services provided and other documentation etc. for the purpose of documenting activities providing written reference and/or conveying information.
- Provides training on a variety of health related subjects for the purpose of promoting a healthy lifestyle and/or acting as a resource to students teachers and other school personnel.
- Reports health and safety issues to assigned administrator and appropriate agencies (e.g. fights suspected child or substance abuse contagious diseases etc. for the purpose of maintaining students personal safety a positive learning environment and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
- Responds to emergency medical situations (e.g. severe falls prescription reactions bleeding etc. for the purpose of ensuring appropriate immediate medical attention and related followup action.
- Supervises health room assistants for the purpose of ensuring adequate staffing and proper health care.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; directing
other persons within a small work unit; monitoring budget expenditures. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the jobs functions. There is some opportunity to effect the organizations services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: occasional
lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling significant stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling and significant fine
finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20 sitting 40 walking and 40 standing. The job is performed in a
generally hazard free environment and in a clean atmosphere.
