Materials Technologist
Position Overview:
Apave America Inc. has an opening for a fulltime Materials Technologist based out our Houston Texas office with competitive pay and full benefits. The successful candidate will complete both laboratory and field duties as required by our customers. This involves completing tasks in support of failure analysis including but not limited to:
- Photography of samples in the laboratory and locations at sites
- Preparation of metallographic samples for analysis
- Conducting mechanical and metallurgical analysis tests
- Carrying out chemical analysis using OES XRF and LIBS techniques
- Performing corrosion tests
- Preparing reports with the results of all performed tests (mechanical metallographic chemical and corrosion tests)
- Completion of Field Metallographic Replication (FMR) at customer sites
- Other duties as directed by company staff
Required Education Skills and Experience:
- Degree in Materials Engineering Technology Welding Mechanical Engineering Technology or related postsecondary education with commiserate professional experience is required.
- Minimum of three 3 years experience is required; Candidates with experience working in a plant/refinery setting and/or in heavy industry (e.g. Mining Oil & Gas Petrochemical) are preferred.
- Professional memberships certifications or affiliations (API NACE ASM AWS) are considered an asset.
- Valid TWIC Card (or eligibility for TWIC Card) required
- Valid Drivers License and preaccess drug and alcohol testing required
- Preemployment background checks will be required
- Comfort and experience operating handheld tools and equipment including angle grinders plasma cutters band saws etc.
- Knowledge of materials and processes considered an asset
- Prior experience in oil & gas and/or petrochemical facilities considered an asset
- NDT certifications (MT/PT/UTT/RT) considered an asset
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Ability to move carry and lift objects weighing 50 lbs. or more.
- Must be able to walk stand bend reach and climb.
- Remain constantly active throughout shift.
- Vision abilities: close vision distance vision.
- Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by safety department for personal protection (PPE).
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities with or without reasonable accommodation which permits employee to communicate effectively.
- Sufficient vision or other powers of observation with or without reasonable accommodation which permits employee to investigate.
- Sufficient manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodation which permits employee to perform routine infield or office job duties.
- Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes with or without reasonable accommodation to perform infield or office job duties.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Some operations of hand tools and machinery (e.g. angle grinder band saw plasma cutter polishing wheel etc.
- Manipulation and/or lifting of heavy or awkward components weighing 50 lbs. or greater.
- Occasional outdoor/site work may be required with exposure to heat cold rain uneven terrain etc. and restricted access requiring the use of ladders stairs or platforms.
- Ability to focus and multitask effectively.
