Job Description

Wofford College invites applications for a fulltime tenuretrack Assistant Professor of Music Musicology position to begin in August 2025. The music program at Wofford is in an exciting phase of growth with strong support from faculty and administration for its continued development and expansion.

The teaching responsibilities for this position include three courses each semester along with a fourweek Interim term in January during which professors may travel with students or teach on a variety of topics using experiential teaching methods (Interim is not taught during the first year or during sabbaticals). The successful candidate will teach courses in the general education and music curricula including a rotation of American Music World Music and Music Appreciation or other courses that align with their strengths and the departments needs. They will also engage in curriculum development contributing to the enhancement and expansion of the music programs offerings. Additionally the candidate is expected to maintain an active scholarly research agenda in their area of expertise.

At Wofford faculty serve as teacherscholars dedicated to the education and mentorship of undergraduates in a liberal arts tradition. Wofford embraces a broad definition of scholarship that includes creative work as well as disciplinespecific pedagogical and interdisciplinary research. Faculty earn tenure after six years by demonstrating excellence in teaching continued scholarly development and service to the college.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in Musicology Music History or a closely related field (ABD candidates considered if the degree will be completed by the time of appointment).
  • Two years of prior undergraduate teaching experience is strongly preferred.
  • Commitment to classroom teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • Secondary area of expertise in a related area such as strings or ethnomusicology.
  • A record of scholarly or creative activity in the field of music.
  • Interest and/or experience in collaborating within and outside of the music department.
  • Excellent communication leadership and organizational skills.
