Job Description

The Tulane University School of Architecture (TuSA) is seeking qualified candidates within the discipline of Architecture to fill two 2 positions one at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (TenureTrack/ Tenured) and the other at the rank of Professor of Practice. All eligible applicants are encouraged to apply.

In addition to demonstrated excellence in teaching research and creative practice we are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Foundations Design Pedagogy
  • Computational Design Media and Representation
  • Building Performance and Integration

Successful candidates will support our educational mission and teach design studios lectures and seminar courses related to their area of expertise. Faculty at TuSA offer coursework across the Architecture programs (BArch BSArch MArch and MSArch) with the opportunity to collaborate with other programs within the school umbrella.

The Tulane University School of Architecture (TuSA) provides global leadership in New Orleans and around the world through excellence in design research and practice in the built environment. TuSA includes a robust undergraduate and graduate Architecture program and several other allied programs and degree paths. Faculty members at TuSA teach coursework and collaborate as appropriate to their expertise across the schools programs including Architecture (B.Arch B.S.Arch M.Arch and M.S.Arch Research and Design) Landscape Architecture and Engineering (M.L.A.M.S.E. Real Estate (B.S.R.E. M.S.R.E.D. Preservation (M.S.H.P. Design (B.A.Des. and Social Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship (SISE). Other schools programs and centers at the University provide opportunities for interdisciplinary research and collaboration including the A.B. Freeman School of Business graduate degrees (M.B.A. M.S. the ByWater Institute the Murphy Institute and the School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine.

The Tulane School of Architecture is recognized for our robust community outreach designbuild and interdisciplinary research initiatives including the Center on Climate Change and Urbanism coastal and riparian issues historic preservation sustainable real estate development and social and environmental justice. The complex nature of this region provides ample opportunities for comparative global studies. For this reason we expect TuSAs contributions to be of urgent relevance in the discourse of Architecture and the Built Environment.

Located in New Orleans Tulane University is a tierone research university in the United States member of the selected group of top research universities integrated in the Association of American Universities (AAU). The School of Architecture is an innovator in the field of the built environment at multiple scales from buildings to neighborhoods and from urban landscapes to regional planning. The City of New Orleans and the Mississippi Delta are our natural domains of research with the social and ecological challenges of the region at the forefront of contemporary discourses in global cities. The city is home to a diverse community steeped in a long history of action and exchange. Social and climate justice are interconnected phenomena that demand a new ethic of the built and unbuilt environments that is reinforced by pioneering research teaching and service.

Salary and academic ranks will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The expected starting date of the positions is July 1st 2025. Successful candidates must have a terminal degree in architecture (Master of Architecture) or an equivalent graduate professional degree doctorate or a Ph.D. in architecture or related fields. Professional licensure in the United States (or an international equivalent) is desirable. Candidates should exhibit proficiency in their area of expertise and demonstrated commitment to rigorous design research and innovative curriculum development.

Faculty members at Tulane School of Architecture are expected to teach; work with faculty colleagues the dean and other departments at Tulane to develop curriculum; contribute to crossdisciplinary research initiatives; and engage in service through a range of academic committees. Candidates are expected to pursue a clear agenda of design research writing and creative production. Candidates for this position should be ready to teach undergraduate and graduate level design studios and coursework within their area of expertise.
