High school graduate or equivalent *Certified by the State of Massachusetts

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Provide basic nursing care to assigned patients including: bathing toileting feeding positioning and mobility.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accepts responsibilities delegated by the RN/LPN that fall within the nursing assistant job description
Clarifies assignments with RN
Observes and reports pertinent information to the RN
Organizes and completes assigned tasks within the allotted time
Maintains confidentiality within legal and regulatory parameters
Provides patient privacy confidentiality comfort and safety during care delivery
Incorporates active/passive range of motion exercise into care routine as appropriate exercises
Encourages patient independence while meeting patient care needs
Environment:
Maintains a safe environment
Recognizes and removes safety hazards from patient care area: unneeded or broken equipment spills andelectrical hazards.
Maintains bed safety: low position functioning brakes side rails as directed
Follows standard precautions with all activities
Performs safety watch duties as directed by team leader
Responds to emergency situations as directed by RN and hospital policy
Observes and reports unsafe conditions to the team leader
Contributes to the efficient operation of the patient care unit:
a. Responds to all patient call lights immediately.
b. Participates in maintaining neatness of the patient care area.
c. Participates in the 24 hour staffing requirements by rotation to off shifts and/ or floating to other areas tomeet patient care needs in accordance with hospital policy.
d. Assist with the care of patient belongings at transfer or discharge.
Participates in activities designed for personal growth:
a. Identifies own learning needs and seeks qualified assistance.
b. Attends at least 50 of staff meetings per year.
c. Attends mandatory inservices yearly.
d. Consistently reads and responds to emails each working shift.
