Job Description

Minimum Requirements:

  • Level 1: Bachelors degree in mechanical or nuclear engineering or directly related field.
  • Level 2: Bachelors degree in mechanical or nuclear engineering or directly related field and two years of directly related experience.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy L clearance which requires US Citizenship.

Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Experience with thermalhydraulic transient analysis ideally classroom plus real world experience i.e. internship experience.

Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 1 $65064 $133416 / Level 2 $77628 $159228. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education relevant experience and other credentials.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a preemployment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
  • MultiLevel: This is a multilevel posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Nuclear Safety Analyst to work on our Reactor & Nuclear Safety Engineering team. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our ATR facility at the Site with every Friday off.

Identify and analyze radiological and chemical hazards for all hazard category facilities. Assess risk and potential adverse effects on facility workers colocated workers and the public. Identify applicable requirements perform analyses and author safety bases to document assumptions results and requirements for hazard prevention or mitigation. Use sound engineering principles to identify necessary controls to reduce risks. Perform or arrange for engineering studies supporting hazard and accident analyses. Prepare update or revise various nuclear facility safety documents including DSAs TSRs USQs transportation plans and BIOs to obtain DOE operating approval. Review facility changes or new information for safety basis impact. Maintain effective interfaces with internal and external technical experts.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for 10 CFR 830 by performing nuclear facility safety analyses in accordance with DOE regulatory and company quality standards.Prepare and maintain nuclear facility safety basis documents including documented safety analysis (DSA) and technical safety requirements (TSRs).
  • Support the implementation of the new and revised DSAs and TSRs for nuclear facilities to ensure that TSRs and DSA commitments are adequately implemented in facility procedures.
  • Develop controls that are both effective and most easily executed by operations.
  • Ensure high quality technically defensible products are submitted to the DOE for review & approval.
  • Provide technical peer reviews for new and revised technical products principally nuclear facility DSAs and TSRs.
  • Support project activities which include reviews of routine and abnormal operating procedures and operational events or design activities with respect to the facility safety basis.
  • Review facility modifications and longrange planning to ensure nuclear safety requirements are met.
  • Execute the unreviewed safety question (USQ) process for proposed facility and procedure changes.
  • Execute the safetyindesign process for new nuclear facilities or major modifications.
  • Conduct facility hazard classification hazard identification assessment accident analyses facility categorization and safety system classification.
  • Interface and build relationships with front line organizations such as researchers project managers and operations to ensure safety basis projects are completed and submitted to the Department of Energy (DOE) for approval on schedule.
  • Identify DSA commitments and derives TSRs to ensure hazardous and radioactive material releases are prevented or mitigated.
  • Collaborate in establishing objectives setting priorities and advising management of nuclear safety issues.
  • Perform and review thermalhydraulic transient analyses in support of the ATR safety basis.
