Simon & Schuster is seeking a Vice President Executive Editor to acquire nonfiction and/or fiction for its flagship imprint. All category interests and genre specialties will be considered. The ideal candidate is deeply passionate about and devoted to the art and craft of book publishingyet also believes the industry is ripe for innovation and experimentation (and embraces efforts to affect such progress).


Specific responsibilities include:
1. Soliciting acquiring and editing books for publication.
2. Working with the publicity and marketing teams to position books and the art department on packaging.
3. Acting as the inhouse liaison between editorial and the production design art and managing editorial departments as well as the sales marketing and publicity teams.
4. Helping other editors assess projects as needed.
5. Communicating with authors and agents in all phases of the publishing process from acquisition to publication date.
6. Effectively representing own list as well as the Simon & Schuster imprint to booksellers foreign publishers literary organizations and other outofhouse contacts beyond authors and agents.

Minimum of 1012 years of publishing experience in editorial acquisitions for a general trade publisher
Strong editing capabilities
Established contacts in the agent community

Entrepreneurial thinker who proactively generates book ideas and seeks out writers directly

Skilled at generating unique marketing and publicity ideas for their books
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills
Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to negotiate with authors and agents
Proven ability to set priorities under pressure and multitask effectively
Excellent attention to detail
Proficiency in Microsoft Word Excel Outlook Teams etc.

Willingness to work in person (Rockefeller Center Manhattan) 34 days per week

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City California Colorado Washington state and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of jobrelated factors including but not limited to geographic location market demands experience training and education.
