Job Description

High Point University School of Law invites applicants to serve on its inaugural fulltime faculty and teach its first class of J.D. students who will begin in August 2024. Candidates will have the exciting opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment with a holistic approach to legal education that focuses on the doctrinal knowledge practical skills and valuesbased professional identity students need for success in a rapidly evolving legal profession. Candidates should have a passion for teaching scholarship and service and should possess an entrepreneurial spirit and be wellsuited to work in a collegial and studentoriented culture.

As a new law school HPU School of Law is seeking candidates who have broad teaching interests but primarily seeks those who will teach the following courses in its firstyear curriculum: Civil Procedure Property Torts Constitutional Law Criminal Law and Legal Research & Writing. Candidates should indicate in their cover letter the topical areas in which they would like to teach. In addition to teaching courses in the School of Law faculty responsibilities will include 1 contributing to the scholarly mission of the School of Law; 2 advising and mentoring students; and 3 participating in law school and University service as assigned.

The School invites applicants from entrylevel to those seeking a tenured appointment. Entrylevel candidates need not have any prior law school teaching experience but must show significant promise for excellence in teaching scholarship and service. The School encourages applications from all candidates who will contribute to the schools stimulating intellectual environment. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with each candidates qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date for these positions is June 3 2024.

The School of Law is one of the most recent graduate schools begun by High Point University an innovative liberal arts institution with 6000 undergraduate and graduate students and with an expertise in educating students in the life skills critical for professional success. The School of Law will be seeking ABA provisional approval at the earliest opportunity in conformity with ABA Standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor from an ABAapproved law school
  • Exemplary academic record
  • Demonstrated interest in teaching and student mentorship and in creating an inspiring welcoming and dynamic learning environment for all students
  • Clear commitment to legal scholarship
  • Excellent interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with other law school faculty and staff
  • Willingness to contribute actively to the mission vision and objectives of the School and University

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant experience in the practice of law or in a related professional field
  • Successful completion of the bar exam in at least one U.S. state
  • Record of scholarly publications and presentations that contribute to the improvement of the law legal education and/or the legal profession
  • Active engagement in professional organizations such as disciplinespecific organizations and bar associations
